The Rangers will also soon announce they've signed forward Chris Chappell, a 21-year-old in camp this week who had 38 goals and 38 assists in 68 games for Saginaw (OHL). Chappell is 6-foot-4, 209 pounds.

Hmmm....has decent size and apparently from the few videos i just saw on youtube he isn't afraid to fight either.

Anyone else know anything else about him? Offensive abilities and upside? 38 goals and 38 assists in 68 games sure doesn't seem to be bad at all in the OHL...

We sign more prospects than any other team. We gotta get lucky and find a gem eventually.... right?

Named as one of the West's most underrated and improved players, this Saginaw Spirit forward and captain has come a long way this season. At 6'4, 210, Chappell is a load to handle for opposing defenseman, as he uses his strength to outmuscle defenders for the puck. At his size, Chappell is also actually an excellent skater who loves to take the puck hard to the net and whose overall offensive ability has taken huge steps forward. Chappell has definitely been the most impressive overage player I've seen this season, and I'd be very surprised if a big man with the talent he has, does not get an NHL contract this offseason.

Not a bad idea. Seems like he could very well turn into a decent 3rd liner

Not to compare him to Grachev straight up but the numbers look pretty nice considering Grachev put up 40-40 in 60... so 38-38 in 68 isn't that bad. I'm assuming they are more of garbage goals/deflections just from the top of my head, but correct me if I am wrong please. Sounds like a Domi-lite kinda thing... Offensive Flair who racks up the minutes. (Don't get me wrong, haven't seen this kid play, just purely speculating.)

Can anyone confirm or deny or give an update on him.

NICE.

I liked this kid a lot and I'm glad we picked him up. He's a long shot to make the NHL, obviously, but it's not like he's a slug or anything.

Doesn't win them all but at least he shows up for the dance!

I do like that the club likes to pluck guys out of the OHL though. Really getting creative, and making very low risk moves for potential moderate rewards.

Good signing.

Another player with size and skill who can skate. Let's hope Hartford molds him into another everyday player for us.

I really like how the Rangers are looking outside the draft in order to find some more depth for the organization. If they can do this regularly then they can use the draft for some riskier players because they have the lower lines set through other means.

Just came on the boards to see how he was doing at your prospect camp, and came across this.

I see someone has already quoted me (my blog), so it has to be clear to you guys that I like what he brings to the table.

I think he has the potential to be a really solid NHL player. Good size, good hands, does all the little things (Saginaw's captain last year). Has improved his skating a lot, to the point where I think he's actually very mobile for a big forward.

Just a classic late bloomer.

Good to know Brock, thanks. Always appreciate your input as you get to see these OHL'ers first hand.

He broke out in his overage year, ie. after he would have been eligible for the draft.
