GDT: Coyotes @ Oilers - LAST home game!

theEdmontonOilers

vs.

thePhoenixCoyotes

Sunday, March 28th, 2004
Rexall Place
Edmonton, Alberta
6pm

THE RACE TO THE PLAYOFFS!
6. Calgary 90 * 6-3-1-0
7. St. Louis 85 * 6-2-2-0
8. Nashville 85 * 2-3-3-2
9. Edmonton 85 * 6-0-1-3

*denotes last 10 games

Edmonton Oilers: 34-27-12-5 85 points tied for 7th in West
Phoenix Coyotes: 21-33-18-6 66 points 13th in West

The Edmonton Oilers home record of 21-12-4-3 proves that within the cramped but comfortable confines of Rexall Place - the Oilers are pretty much dominant! Especially lately. The last game of the season will definetely be a sellout - making it Edmonton's 33rd sellout (the Oilers are 8th overall in capacity % - way to go Oilers fans!) this year. The Phoenix Coyotes are 11-14-11-2 on the road, and yeah it's surprising considering that their record at home is a paltry 10-19-7-4. The Coyotes are not a team to be taken lightly this time of year - all one has to do is look back to our last meeting when they took us to OT. Last meeting: a 5-4 OT win @ Rexall Place. Smyth scored the overtime winner (video). Comrie - who dislikes us dirty Commies - was booed everytime he touched the puck. *sigh...* It was beautiful. The ex-Winnipeg Jets will be looking to stab a stake into the heart of the Oilers tonight.

The Coyotes suffered two shutout losses in their last two games, first against Cowtown on Wednesday (0-4), then San Jose on Friday (0-3). Will the goose eggs continue? With a little luck and great goaltending the Oilers can extend that streak so they can help Phoenix extend another record - for the longest goal drought in NHL history...quite a contrast for the all-time record Phoenix goalie Brian Boucher set earlier this season.

The Oilers lead the season series 2-to-1. Leapfrogging over St. louis, who are 6-2-2 in their last ten, will be an almost impossible task considering their soft schedule and game in hand. Therefore we must set our sights to our sister city Nashville. It's us or them. Will the Oilers break the hearts of the Preds faithful for the 2nd straight year? Or will Nashville get their revenge? Tune in at 6pm tonight to find out on.....

Sportsnet West!!

WE BELIEVE!

I say forget about booing Comrie. He isn't a concern. We just need to concentrate on cheering our boys on. This is EXACTLY the type of game that worries me. A weaker team in a single game between some harder ones. We seem to let up on these and coast. If MacT can keep their heads on straight and keep them in the game it'll go miles in proving his calibre of coach to me.

But I still have faith

Oilers 3
Pheonix 1

Brewer, Laraque, Torres (he is due!)

GET IT DONE BOYS!!! If we run the table we are in!

I BELIEVE!!!

2-1 Oilers is my prediction. And I've picked BG to score in each of the last 4 games, and he keeps dissapointing me, but he's bound to streak sooner or later here. So I'm going to guess him again along with Pisani. Hopefully BG beats the snot out of a certain spoiled little brat as well.

Don't win, win big.

It's essential that the Oilers win, but it's even more important that the Oilers win in such convincing fashion that their next three opponents cry themselves to sleep the night before the game, disband quietly after the second period and melt into the stands wearing civilian clothes, and quit playing hockey forever so they can live in far away monastries, with only the occasional nightmare flashback of the Oilers striding through the NHL like a Colossus. That's what kind of win the Oilers need tonight.

I'm looking for Oates to have a very good game.. he has 2 points in 2 games and has actually looked pretty good on the powerplay. Hopefully Izzy stays in the lineup, he should have a field-day against Phoenix's weak defence. I still think it is very possible that Nashville drops one of their two games against Chicago, loses to St. Louis and loses to Colorado.. I BELIEVE!!!!!

Canucks fan here, but GO OILERS!!!

Pushing for a playoff birth for Edmonton big time --- western teams gotta stick together!

And beat those 'Yotes up real good so they limp into GM place and help us catch the Avs!

Another must win. How many is that now??

5-1 win for the Oil. Markkanen plays well when needed.

Goals:
PHO: Comrie (gets booed for his efforts)
EDM: Isbister, Laraque, Smyth, Smith, Dvorak
