Gomez was a huge disappointment. Not that Iexpected him to score 40 goals or anything, but I did expect more in the way of leadership and playmaking.

In the end he just kind of skated thru the neutral zone.......again and again and again. Sometimes he took a shot.

He did turn the puck over on occasion.

One of the major problems with Gomez was that he struggled to find chemistry with his wingers here, and that problem will be averted in Montreal with Gionta on his wing.

However, I think it is highly unlikely that they will replicate their numbers from the 2005-06 season. Size is clearly an issue on that line as well, it will be interesting to see how they do against some of the bigger and tougher teams in their division like Toronto and Boston.

I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere, but does anyone know what kind of contract Higgens will want? What kind of cap hit can we expect?

Soooo, what's up with this Ryan McDonagh kid? What about Pavel Valentenko, is he just a lost cause? I see that he played in the KHL last year. Doug Janik looks like nothing at all (At least, for the Rangers). UFA who had a 500k salary last year.

And Chris Higgins, is he just going to be let go? He looks like he might have some upside.

I know this was just a salary dump trade, but a couple of the pieces that came back are kind of interesting.

higgins is a restricted free agent, he will be signed, he is from new york and he is honored to play for the rangers. McDonagh is going into his Junior year at Wisconsin (stepan plays there as well) and also Valentenko is a player in the Bryan Marchment mold, and Valentenko might come over to tryout for the NHL and if he doesnt make it he will go back to russia.

Higgins will likely be signed and play on the 2nd or 3rd line. McDonagh has good potential as a top 4 dman. Both could have significant roles on the Rangers.

McDonagh is a very good prospect, who IMO is better than Sanguinetti.

Pierre said he believes Valentenki could come over as soon as next season. Very gritty defensive defenseman.

Higgins is like a bigger version of Callahan, and will be re-signed.

I'm happy to get Gomer's salary off the books, no offense to the dude. He seems like a really nice guy, but his salary is way too inflated, and I don't think New York is the place for him. He seems like the kind of player who needs to be in a pressure environment. Everyone knows he's got talent, and if he doesn't play like it in Montreal, the fans and media are going to eat him alive.

With all that said, I'd be super happy if even one of the players in this trade ends up on the Rangers roster, and is a positive for the team.

Valentenko has a NHL contract but he signed a 3 year deal to play in the KHL last fall.

Komisarek but Higgins is the type of player who will get in on the forecheck and hit people as well.

I'd guess Komisarek but Higgins can muck it up as well.

Komisarek is from New York too, I think.

To be honest, I'm still absolutely astonished we were able to rid ourselves of this contract. Here's to hoping we can get rid of at least one of the others...

I know they haven't mentioned it, but wasn't Higgins an Islanders fan? I know Komisarek was.

He claims that he was a Habs fan growing up, but watched a lot of Ranger games.

Hey, given the confusion as to whether he goes by Chris or Christopher, can we all just agree to call him "Higgy Baby?"

Very psyched to hear he re-signed. I think his game is a perfect fit for Torts' style - maybe better than anyone on the team. I also think that he will benefit tremendously from escaping the pressure-cooker situation he faced in MTL due to the expectations he came up with (and of course the hockey crazy atmosphere there.) As a result I have a feeling he may go on to have a long and productive career wth the Rangers. And I'm calling at least two 35-goal seasons before he retires.

I believe the Habs were his favorite team, followed by the Rangers.

I can understand that, I grew up on the Isle and I was a Ranger fan. And considering I was a small child during the Islanders dynasty, that's no small accomplishment.
