Apparently, that scout report is pretty old. McDonagh has been struggling lately and been quite mediocre at the U20 and failed to make the #1 pairing in Wisconsin (RedScull told me on IRC).

aha, there is always a wrench thrown in somewhere. Even so he is still a valuable addition to our blue line

There's clearly some concern with his development. That said, he could be flipped out in Heatley trade and always remember that defenseman develop at a slower pace than forwards. If he stays a Ranger, I hope he turns pro this year so he can develop in Hartford.

They had a ridiculously stacked D, with 5 guys that were drafted in the top 2 rounds (3 in the first round) to eat up minutes.

if sather doesnt flip McDonagh to Ottawa i would like to see him sign McDonagh and have him play this season in hartford. McDonagh might have stalled his growth at Wisconsin and might need to take the next step in his development

That may be, but the reaction of Montreal fans upon learning they lost him told me what I needed to know. They're crushed.

Also, he was still ranked #18 overall in the April prospect rankings.

McDonagh was one of the top defensive prospects for the Habs. You guys won this trade by far. I'm still in shock.

Big deal if he stalled in development, he can bounce back plus the other Dman in the deal is pretty solid

Pyatt may make it in the future, good luck to him, dont think Busto will ever

To Hell with Heatley, call Tampa! If you're going to make a deal for a big name, make that name Vinny.

He started out the season on the first pairing afaik, but was demoted after the really horrible start by the Badgers. He's definitely a project but he has all the tools.

If we trade this kid away I'm going to cry. We we're handed a gift from the heavens, lets not screw this up.

Definately should hold on to McDonagh. Especially now since the speculation has Heatley going to the Oilers we can retain this 15+mil in cap space. We can resign many of our guys and take care of Zerdev and perhaps Antropov. Perhaps we can make a go for Hossa!

Having McDonagh in addition to all our other high D prospects is not just a gift it is a blessing! Sather you did it ya *******!!!!

Staal-Girardi
McDonagh-MDZ
Sanguinetti-Gilroy

If we can move Roszival I would really flip the **** out! This would then give us 20Million in cap room. What A BLESSING!!!!!!!

No no no to Antropov. His contract demands are ridiculous. Don't put us back in the same situation we just escaped.

I keep expecting to wake up. Forget Higgins, just this kid for Gomez would have been a steal

Don't know anything about him, but from what a Hab fan said, he will be a top 4 on your team, maybe even a top 2. I'm not a ranger fan, but you guys will have one hell of a blueline in a couple of years. congrats on being able to get rid of Gomez.

Send a message via AIM to Jonathan.
McDonagh is now our top prospect.

This guy is legit.

So stoked to have him in our system.

Seen a bunch of posts on the MTL board that he might be a bust? Is that possible, or are they just trying to feel better?

Not for 5 years 5.5m/per like he's looking for.

There's the chance he could be a bust, but that's the way it goes with prospects. There's probably a few Habs fans trying to make themselves feel better as well.

His offensive game hasn't developed as quickly as expected, but it's a little early to write the kid off.

There's a poll on the Montreal board, asking what people like LEAST about the deal. The top two choices are "Gomez's salary" and "Losing McDonagh." Meaning that 50% of those Habs posters are worried more about losing the prospect than paying Gomez $7M. Take that for what it is worth.

If I'm Sather, forget about the overpaid disgruntled players. If you are going to package prospects, trade some of our prospects for a player like Matt Duchene. Can't tell me Colorado would not be tempted for one of McDonagh/Sags/MDZ and a forward (not named Kreiger/Evgeny/Anisimov) maybe Stepan.

I'd hate to give up Stepan but we are trading up for a player like Duchene. We keep the cap space and STILL have amazing organization depth.

Thanks. Just seemed strange he would have a good chance at busting out being he has an 8.0B HF rating...I know that's not a guarantee, but if they are saying his worst case scenario is likely a 2nd pairing guy it sounds like his chances of making it in the NHL are pretty darned good.
