Undrafted Players

I like to know who are the some of the best players that never got drafted but playing or played in the NHL. And current players that went undrafted that should be sign by an NHL team.

On top of my head I can think of:

Eddie Belfour (Chicago)
Curtis Joseph (St. Louis)
John Madden and Brian Ralfaski (New Jersey)
Adam Oates (Detroit)
Steve Thomas (Toronto)
Martin St. Louis (Calgary)

Can't believe Fedotenko wasn't drafted, it's like having the 4th overall(think) pick giftwrapped for you.

Bergeron was signed by the Oilers, not great success so far but it will come.

With the Rangers JUST signing Thomas Poke last week, and having him play that day, I guess he would be on the list too.

How about the greatest player ever?

Wayne Gretzky was never drafted. NHL or WHA.

I would say that as good as some of the other players are (and there are more than a couple of HoFer's in the group) I think it is safe to say that Wayne Gretzky is the best player to play in the NHL that was never drafted (seeing as he was the best player to ever PLAY in the NHL period...)

While true, its a different situation. He was too young to be drafted when he signed. No one even got a chance at him. Most of the rest of these guys were passed on at some point by everybody.

That is amazing that Dino Ciccerelli wasn't drafted. Especially since he put up amazing numbers in junior, and then scored 55 goals in his first full NHL season.

Wow.

If I remember correctly, I think Dino was coming off of a pretty serious injury around the time he would have been drafted. The scouts may have been scared off a bit. I think it was something like that. I could be mistaken though.

That would make sense. He scored over 160 points in 60 OHL games, so something must of happened.

Have they changed the rule? I assume you can't sign someone before they are old enough to be drafted now.

I know earlier european players didnšt have to be drafted to play in the NHL, but I think you have to be drafted today to sign a NHL contract (as a european-born player)

Are you all sure Lubos Bartecko isn't drafted?
