Disappeared down the stretch when his team needed him the most.

6.6 million. Wow, I hope Calgary can help him really find his game. I mean, seriously, all you need to do to get paid handsomely in the NHL is be reasonably skilled and be one of few UFA's at your position. What you've done in your career clearly means nothing anymore.

Guy just got money that ought to be reserved for the Scott Niedermeyers of the world. Seriously, Shea Weber is such a ****ing discount now its absurd.

That ain't enough to be elite.
To his credit, he is still 24 years old and has accomplished quite a bit as well as extensive playoff experience. It is not like a 24 year old defenseman can't improve.

He had 60 points 2 seasons ago and was a PLUS 12
He didn't have the same season in 08-09 with 47 points and a MINUS 11

He had 7 points in 7 games in the 2007-2008 playoffs and a MINUS 2
He had 3 points in 5 games in the 2008-2009 playoffs and a PLUS 2

He is 24 years old (reality check), and a 2 time allstar.

I bring these points up, because calling him a "pylon" is insulting to our intelligence and the intelligence of most people who follow hockey closely. You want to say he didn't have as good a season in 08-09, ok. But, he is one of the top young defensemen in the league at 24 years old.

I want Hossa. If we can't get him, then I say Gaborik.

Only 2 fits I see...excellent goal scorers that skate extremely fast

Bleh... The rumors everywhere are going to make my head explode... According to Sportsnet, Hossa has rejected Detroit's offer opening up the door into free agency... Tomorrow is going to be suspenseful... Watch all the free agents are going to be gone within an hour and Dean will be standing there saying "too expensive" but with so many out there and Dean having some money in his hand... Who knows, we may land one.
Well that's an improvement over the last guy that was out on the golf course when this time of year rolled around.

And the most important question no one is asking?

If Phaneuf is on the Kings, does the league still give him a free pass on his frequent flying elbows?

If we got Phaneuf, would JDM's head explode as a result of Dion's "face"?

He replaces the number allotted to Pronger in the Pacific Division.

So long as we don't give up the farm and still address the winger need, I would be ok with Phaneuf. His face passes the minimum disgust bar.

He is not my first choice really, but I don't doubt his ability.

But it is a legitimate question. Phaneuf elbows people in the face regularly and never gets suspended. The Kings generally do not get such free passes. Does Phaneuf keep his infraction exempt status on the Kings? I wouldn't be surprised if all of a sudden Colin Campbell says to himself 'huh, that King Phaneuf is a dirty *******, can't let him get away with that!'

The only reason I am against Havlat was after watching the earthquake that went off in his head in the Detroit series.

I'd much rather risk Gaborik's glass groin than potential post-concussion symptoms with Havlat.

So at what time does free agency start again? And should we expect moves right away?

Heatley is a done deal to Edmonton provided he waives his NTC....for Penner, Cogliano, and Smid.

MH. Martin Havlat? Marian Hossa? He's friends with both right?

Who knows if that's really Gaborik's account or not, but it's sure fun to imagine.

LOL... I don't think that's actually Gaborik's twitter account for a second, but whoever is doing it is giving us entertainment for a day or so anyway. MH = Marian Hossa or Martin Havlat.

So much for Ottawa fans thinking they were going to get the world for Heatley.

I'm assuming that means Gaborik wants to come here but isn't and that MH is, being Havlat or Hossa I guess. Seems like a bogus account tho...

Yeah, I doubt it's really Gaborik's account, but it's still fun to dream.

The west is getting tough - JayBo to CGY, Heatley to EDM, Dean needs to pick it up and make sure this team can actually compete for a playoff spot, or else another lottery finish.
