excellent signing. Very happy for our Tampa team. I thought we would end up with someone like Daryl Sydor again. But to my dismay, Brian Lawton has done it again. I think the seven year deal was a deal breaker, Lawton had to throw in to make sure he signed. It looks like our front office has some sort of idea of who and what they want, and they are getting it done--------------Good job guys!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Lightning fans! Blues fan here with my own take on the signing. I am somewhat of a Lightning fan and lived in St. Pete during the prolonged construction of that "rink" your team plays in.
When I read 7 years at $3.5M+ per, I thought that this was not a good signing. In fact, I said to myself right away, "I sure hope this front-loaded." And it appears that way.
Ohlund will be only 33 years old by season's start. He's still in his prime...on the back end of it...but still prime. He's had a few injuries, but has come back strong from each one.
But what really stands about Ohlund is his physical conditioning. During the lockout he played only a few games back home and came back from the lockout in superb shape; didn't skip a beat at all!!
And what makes you guys think he'll retire after a few seasons with Tampa Bay? He's in great shape and plays a simple style.
He'll be perfect for Hedman, hopefully. But what if they don't like each other? It's happened before on other teams.
Finally, I am glad to be rid of him; from the Western Conference, that is. Now the Blues don't have to worry about Pronger and Ohlund. On the flip side, not having these two outstanding defensemen weakens our Conference.
