Isn't this person a Flyers fan? Who are currently in cap hell with Briere sitting in the minors?

So far I think this is the best signing for the money. Good value you got here with a very underrated Ohlund. In retrospect he signed for "Jeff Finger money."

Awesome, awesome, awesome. That's what was going through my head when I got a text from my brother. He's exactly what the defense needs and someone that can eat up minutes to take pressure off Ranger, Meszaros, etc. Also a perfect mentor for Hedman. Perfect fit for the team. Well done Lawton.

Wow a great signing, after all that talk from Ohlund about wanting to go to a contender, I guess he can see into the future and see how good the Lightning will be 2-3 years from now.

We could be a contender this upcoming season, no kidding. Look at the roster top to bottom.

I'm starting to be very optimistic all of a sudden. I can't believe we got Ohlund. He was the perfect guy for the job here and I thought he was the least likely to sign here. If 7 years it what it took, then fine. We got him cheaper than I expected, anyway. Very happy for this amazing sign. Welcome to Tampa Ohlund!

Same here. I can't WAIT for the new season to start! We might actually find ourselves in the playoffs next year after all.

You better match him careful until february. He's one of those key players that should defend the swedish olympic gold in Vancouver (!)

Öhlund - Meszaros is a lock
Hedman - Krajicek
Ranger - Walker (solid defensive unit)

3.75 sound cheap. Must have wanted some sun. But most important may be that he might have wanted a more offensive role. In that regard his signature might have indicated that.

Can you believe it ? Mattias Öhlund, Matt Walker and Victor Hedman will be on the ice for you in a few months!

Ohlund will be with Hedman. Makes no sense to not have your mentor not on your line to me..

Even if he has lost a step, today we're a better hockey team, and you take your new phenom on the blueline and put him with a talented countryman and keep him relaxed. Good all around.

Do you folks think he got this because of Hedman? They want a mentor?

Part of it is that, but mostly it's because the defense badly needed an experienced top-4 defenseman that can eat up minutes to take the pressure off guys like Meszaros, Ranger, Smaby, etc. Spread around the minutes and you don't have guys playing more than they should. Without having to play 25 minutes a night, the rest of the blueline can probably be more effective. It's what this team missed last year when it was a bunch of kids playing big minutes. Now they have a solid vet that can help out.

Best of luck to Ohlund...

You'll love him in OT. (but pair him with someone fast cuz he can't skate anymore)

On mentoring draft choice Victor Hedman: I’m real excited about joining him. I never met victor to be honest but I heard so many good things about him. I was sitting tonight with Daniel and Henrik Sedin and they’re from the same hometown and know him quite well. They had nothing but good things to say about him as a person and a hockey player.
Quote:
On creating a relationship with Hedman: You make a phone call. I’m sure I’m going to be calling him and talking to him the next few days after things settle down. You share your experiences you had when you were younger. I made mistakes when I was young and hopefully I learned from them and I can prevent him from making th same ones. It’s a tough league to play in he’s got a lot to learn. I’m excited to be a small part of getting him started here.
Quote:
s he a good fit for Tampa?: Tampa has a very talented hockey team. They have a talented group of guys. I do think I can help out with a lot of experience and be a big part of helping their D corps. I feel like I have my best years ahead of me and I’m extremely excited about my next little while here.
Quote:
How did GM Brian Lawton sell you on Tampa?: Brian spoke about there team and the city of Tampa and it’s a very talented hockey club, and I do feel like I can bring a lot to this hockey team with my experience. I’m 32 years old I feel like I have my best years ahead of me and to be able to help Victor Hedman out is an important part of my job. So there’s a lot of stuff I’m excited about.

Its cool, you can tell he kind of has a sense of duty. Now I understand a bit more about his talk of "playing a bigger role someplace else". Very happy to have him here.

Sounds like he's ready to take on a leader role, which is what we need, someone to step up for our young guys.

I love Ohlund so much that I can't help but root for you guys next year. I see him being such a GREAT influence for Hedman. It'll be hard for me to see Ohlund in a different jersey, but he just wasn't a good fit for Vancouver anymore. His lack of foot-speed has been talked about to death, but if he's paired with a quicker defenseman, then his sound positional game will make up for his lead feet.

You guys got a real character player who will benefit your dressing room greatly. Really sucks to see him go.

God luck next year, guys!
