Damn, i thought if the flames could move someone he might be a decent low cost second line option.

Great deal for the Caps.

What you just described is precisely what the Capitals need.

Good for the Caps. Great guy, and a damn good player...even if he is slowing down a bit. You'll still always get 100% from the guy, hard work along the boards, and great net presence. I do think the price is a bit steep for him at this point, but not too bad. I was hoping the Flyers might be able to bring him back for 2 mill.

what ev god signing IMO

Welcome to the game of having to decipher what GMGM (aka the undertaker) actually means.

"I'm not going to be active in free agency" means either he's doing nothing or he's trying to sign the entire SEL to a contract. Nobody to include Uncle Ted has a clue what he means. lol

I like the signing. Yes he's an older player but he'll show a fairly young team how to do some dirty work down low.

Different players have different values for different teams. On the Flyers, with Hartnell and so many other gritty guys, Knuble was no longer worth a $2.8m 2-year contract. On Washington, he's absolutely worth that. We desperately need a gritty winger who can work in front of the crease. It's a glaring hole on our team and his presence really rounds out our power play, and our 1st line. He's a key fit, and he's going to get to play on a line with Ovechkin, which ain't bad from his perspective.

Decent signing, he's getting a bit old and slow though. Have to wonder how much he has left.

From Rob Rossi's twitter.

"Cannot get anybody in Pitt to confirm Knuble is off market..."

Now that doesnt mean that the Caps didnt sign him. It's just something to think about. Rossi cant get it confirmed.

It's been confirmed by the Caps lead writer on the Capitals Report podcast going on right now. Contract is in the Capitals office. Press release should be out within a few minutes.

I've just been informed that the paperwork is complete and that Mike Knuble is officially a Washington Capital. GM George McPhee is set to speak to reporters around 4 and I'm also hoping to hear from Knuble himself. So check back later for everyone's thoughts on the move.

Really? He's always come off as quite and conservative to me... definitely not a leader

You don't have to be vocal to be a good guy in the room, though. If he's quiet and supportive, and generally good to get along with, that would be enough.

Not saying he is, I have no idea, but it's a possible explanation.

this.

he is worth it to the Caps even if he is only gets 2nd line minutes and is a PP specialist (that is a worst case scenario)

Liking what Knuble will add to the team. Definitely fills the role of Kozlov and hell, he's an upgrade on top of it! Kozlov's questionable work ethic has been quite the nuisance.

Cammalleri next???? GMGM please!

Excellent signing. He'll be a terrific compliment to Ovechkin or Semin, he's a force in front of the net on the PP, he's still an effective grinder and he can play either wing if he has to. (Although I'm certain he'll be an RW).

He won't be a big-time difference-maker, but he fills a net for less than $3 million.

Now if only Washington would do something about that goaltending...

Was who I wanted as a Blackhawk. Very happy with Hossa, but Knuble would be great around the net for our powerplay.

Good deal for the Caps. They needed a grinder, they got killed on the boards this whole year. Also he will lead by example.

Lastly the Caps have stud D in the minors second only to the Kings in the Future Watch scouting report. They need to let Carlson and Alzner PLAY!!!! Sink or swim with your picks.

They also have a position of strength in goalie, with Varlamov and Neuvirth. They just to give them a chance and then use one of them for trade bait if they want.

And now he's on a line with a guy who attempted over ONE THOUSAND shots last year! He's going to be very bruised, and the Caps are going to score a bunch more ugly goals than they have in the past. Considering they scored over 270 goals without anyone manning the crease on a consistent basis, that bodes very well.
