That said I didn't want him back, but he's a great bottom pairing and PK guy.
Fixed that for you...

Is there a top prospect next year that Bob is aiming for? I think this would have worked last year to get Tavares.

The real Habs are somewhere between the 07-08 edition and the 08-09 edition. Injuries obscured the picture and yet Hfboards still wants to paint the Habs as losers and destined to be a laughing stock? Pfft. Does anyone actually remember what a bad franchise is run like? (see 1980s Devils, Leafs and Canucks, 90s Lightning, Isles and Whalers/Canes, 2000s Panthers, Coyotes and Hawks until Wirtz died).

LOL...but seriously, that's just revisionist history. It takes 2 guys on a pairing, Scuderi wasn't covering for both himself and Gill, nobody can do that. Gill held his own for us just fine. For a bottom pairing guy, he's very solid.

Gill's really not worth that, but I think the Habs will like him.

He's not as bad as a lot of posters here make him out to be.

See, I hated it when we traded for him last year, I though it was dumb. But Shero knew what he saw and both Therrien and Bylsma had no problem utilizing him. He actually wasn't half bad for us

I get what Gainey's doing too, but this all hinges on Carey Price stepping up

Make sure Gill gets paired with a mobile partner because he is very vulnerable to rushes. When he was on the Pens EVERY opponent would dump the puck into Gill's corner, chase it down and go right around him. Someone needs to cover for his lack of speed in those situations. Gill is at his best when he can play stationary and use his extreme reach to poke away pucks and break up passes.

It all depends on who he gets paired with. He can be useful but he is soooooooooo slow. I dont think he is worth the amount that the Habs paid for him though but he will be alright as long as you get the right guy with him.

Overpaid. I mean he's okay and he played well from time to time with the Pens the past couple years, but you have to put him with someone thats either really fast or really good at defensive positioning (Scuderi). I would have paid him about 1.75M, just a little more than Montador got earlier today.

Also, somethign to be worried about is his size. It would not shock me if he rapidly digressed here soon. 12 years in the NHL of being a physical defenseman takes its toll much heavier on a body that big. I think you begin to see this toward the middle of this year and through to next year.

This. Frankly, the team the Habs had last year was actually pretty decent aside from the goaltending chaos and the plague of injuries. If those two things hadn't happened they may have at least gotten to the second round last year. Now that the team is being blown up and Gainey is making stupid moves though next year's team looks to be much worse.

Depends on how you look at it. Gomez is better than any center we had last year, Cammalleri is better than any wingers we had last year (except for the random nights when Kovalev was doing his magic). Komi sucked last year and did more damage than he helped in the playoffs.

Gainey is definitely counting on the young guys to step up. Plekanec, both Kostitsyns, Latendresse, Pacioretty and Price. These are the guys that will have to step up if we want any sort of success in the playoffs... if we make them.

Gill is good on PK, not much else..He's actually a negative at times otherwise. This comes from someone who's watched him on the Leafs, and several times on the Penguins throughout the regular season and playoffs.

As a Bruin's fan I REALLY like Hal Gill on the Habs.....

You will love the way he screens YOUR goalie and gives the puck to the other team.

Hal Gill is pretty good at killing penalties. Hal Gill also handles the puck at the offensive blueline better than a guy like Scuderi or Eaton. But god help him if the forechecker gets a step on him, because there is no angle in the world that can help him box that guy out.

I felt he had a good couple years in Pittsburgh, although in the last 20 games of this year's regular season he was playing incredibly bad. Some games he almost lost singlehandedly. Also, unless you're in the Finals and the refs have pocketed their whistles, he's going to get more holding penalties than anyone else in the league.

No change from Komisarek then, except 2 million dollars cheaper. I can dig it.
