...i think holmgren is just refering to his compete level. The attitude of "hating to lose" is what ive been hearing. I guess he's hoping for that to spred through-out the locker room, and to things such as faceoffs....

iLap sounds retarded. He's been Lappy for over 10 years, you can't even try to change that.

Lappy is his given nickname. Even when the Avalanche played the Kings, Laperriere was still known as Lappy in colloquial speak. Sort of how Roenick is still 'JR' in these parts despite him playing for different teams.

I suppose guys can get hot taking face offs much like they can get hot scoring goals, but as someone who has been watching him for a long time, I can't see where Holmgren dreamed this up. Not quite sure about Colorado, but he was never a consistent option for the Kings for crucial face offs. And these in the days when the Kings were actually a decent team. If Holmgren wants him as the go-to guy for a defensive zone draw with 15 seconds to go in a 1-0 game, he's lost it. He's never been that kind of face off guy. He hasn't finished a season over 50% since he was with the Kings, which 50% is ok, but it's not great. Not to the point where you're promoting his face off ability. And going back 5 years to face off numbers expecting to translate doesn't quite fly.

Love Lappy as a player, but I wouldn't even bother with him taking draws at all.

This.

If you don't want to call him Lappy, because you think it's lame, then why try to come up with a nickname that's even more lame?

I think what Holmgren might mean is that he'll help out with winning faceoffs in general, not like actually taking the draw himself. You know, like just going hard after the puck when its not cleanly won. There were a lot of times we had chances to win draws but it seemed like the wingers weren't all that interested in helping out. Thats just my rationalization of it, theres always the possibility Holmgren is just crazy I guess lol.

The team. If you ever heard them on the ice they always called him Uppy when looking for a pass or whatever.

His given nickname? Is it on his birth certificate?

I don't care who gave it to him or how long he's had it. It's unimaginative, boring, and a little homosexual. Lappy, Kappy, and Uppy needs to die.

This is an unfair game you are playing. What is he going to come back with, "Larry-y"?

I say we called him The Wizard of Schnoz for that crazy nose-piece.

This board more or less changed Richards' nickname.

It's not up to me, obviously, but clearly I'm not the only one who feels this way. I fully expect the team to call him Lappy, because hockey players are beyond lazy with their nicknames (in most cases), but judging from this board and other Flyers forums, a lot of people hate the Kappy Lappy Uppy names.

It doesn't matter to me if you use iLap or not, just not Lappy. How about we call him Laperriere and stop being lazy altogether?

His nickname is Lappy, it's what he's called by anyone who doesn't call him "Ian" or "Laperriere."

The only people who called Kapanen and Upshall "Kappy" and "Uppy" are on here. They were never real nicknames for those guys. I've heard "Lappy" used in broadcasts a number of times (mainly by Jim Fox). I've don't think I've ever heard Kappy, Uppy or Cannon.

I've definitely heard Kappy and Uppy in post game interviews. Cannon, no. I take what broadcasters with a huge grain of salt. Sometimes I think they make **** up just to fill space and make themselves feel like insiders.

All hockey players add either "y" or "er" to a last name. And that's about as creative as it gets most of the time.

GKJ how good are Laperriere's work along the boards and puck handling skills? I've seen him play more than a few times but i just notice him hustling out there and stirring **** up, but i have never payed close attention to those specific things.

Oh well, I don't usually get to see the post game interviews anyways, just highlights of them.

Flyers players tend to have "sie" as well.

He was pretty good with the Kings, but I didn't see him as much with the Avalanche, except for that 20 goal season which made us irate that he was cast off so whimsically by the Kings. Not a master of it at this point I'd assume, not even a dominant fighter for the guys he fights. I don't know if he'll dig the pucks out, but he should be ok at tying guys up and letting someone else dig it out.

I would think closer to a Keith Jones at this point in his career.
