Recently I checked this board and found that with Zubov possibly retiring a puck moving defenseman is an area of need. With the sharks giving Huskins a big contract it looks like there will be a defenseman on the current team left to trade. Ehrhoff is probably a candidate depending on what is offered. Also if you don't want him because your play by play guy was ripping on him for his +/- stats, well nobody really knows why he did that terrible in that area but he certainly was our #3 guy this past year (some argue #2, though i don't understand why), led the team in TOI in the playoffs, was very good on the PK and of course was great offensively with 42 points in 77 games tied for 23rd in Dman points. Ok now I bet you salivating on him so lets get to the proposal.
To SJ: Eriksson, 1st
To DAL: Ehrhoff
If not feel free to counter offer.
There was an article up on puck prospectus today focused entirely on the Sharks defense, and here's what they had to say about Christian Erhoff!
Christian Ehrhoff gave up a lot of goals despite not matching up against opponents’ best players. He made a lot of mistakes and generated virtually no offense. He is not a top 4 defenseman and is significantly overpaid compared to Murray and Vlasic. Fortunately, he’s only signed for two more years.
I have to say this better describes Ehrhoff then anything I've ever seen written before. Every time Dallas plays San Jose he's the biggest clown on the ice (except for early in the season when Avery played for Dallas).
Tom Gilbert - Defenceman - 26yrs old - NHL 82g 5g 40a 45p
Cap hit: 4m till 2013/14
The Oilers have many puck moving D (Soury-Vish-Grabs) &
Edmonton really needs an shooting LW i.e.: Loui Eriksson
in your opion could or would a trade be done?
No thanks. 4 mil is a huge cap hit for a guy like Gilbert. Especially when you consider that Eriksson will be due for a new contract soon, and even that pay raise won't amount to Gilbert's cap hit. Basically, I see Eriksson as a better forward than Gilbert is a defenseman, and cheaper. This trade is at best a lateral move for the Stars. The Oilers though would be all over something like this.
