Is JJ Being Shopped?

JJ being shopped after the Scuderi signing. Has anyone heard anything? Please check link on how accurate this is.
Thanks.

I hope not unless the return is a top 6 winger.

LA Times from Helen E.

The left-handed shooter becomes the Kings' highest-paid defenseman, ahead of Matt Greene and Tom Preissing. The Kings would like to move Preissing after demoting him to the minors last season.

Scuderi should ease the workload of 37-year-old Sean O'Donnell and enable Lombardi to move restricted free agent Jack Johnson.

What is going on...? Is he really being shopped?

It wouldn't surprise me but I hope not. I see Johnson busting out next year.

I never caught feelings for him like some of you guys, so I have no opinion one way or the other.

In the latter part of the season I saw our defense take a nosedive and his +/- fall into the abyss. I guess that is an opinion then. Yes, I would like to see him go for a top-six forward.

A friend of mine in San Jose said that the Kings are interested in Marleau. Dont know if there is much to it.

Well, if this is true that according to sources the Kings are not interested in Kovalev but is on Ryan Smith.

Alexei Kovalev is an interesting case. By now, I think it's clear he likely won't be returning to Montreal after the Habs added Cammalleri, Gionta and Scott Gomez to their lineup. In fact, a source close to Kovalev suggested the Canadiens were pretty much out of the picture now unless something drastic happened. So, where now for the talented yet enigmatic player?

One would think Los Angeles would be a fit, given that the Kings struck out on Gaborik and Havlat. Sure, they signed blueliner Rob Scuderi on Thursday, but here's a young and talented team screaming for a big-name addition up front. But as of late afternoon Thursday, the Kings had not touched base with the Kovalev camp, and another source told ESPN.com the team was not interested in Kovalev's services.

One name that won't go away when it comes to the Kings is Colorado Avalanche forward Ryan Smyth, who has a no-trade clause in his contract.

Smyth kills LA every time they play. It would be nice to see Smyths reaction the first time he sees Johnson though. Wonder if he even remembers him...

I doubt he's being actively shopped. I expect he'd be part of any big trade, should we make one, but I don't think Lombardi is actively trying to move him. The dialogue with other GMs is probably "You're offering ____, how about I give you Johnson?" rather than "I'm offering Johnson, what will you give me for him?" - there's a big difference between the two. He's not untouchable by any means, but he's going to be on this team in the fall barring a big-name trade. He's not going for Sturm or someone like that.

This is from the 4th period tonight on twitter:

The Kings are very much trying to add a scoring winger. They've spoken to Tanguay & Kovalev, but they're also active around the trade front

JJ for Sturm+. Six time 20+ goal-scorer who plays the LW and is only 30 years old. He is also signed for 3.5 million / year and likes it out west. Lombardi also loves him and so does O'Connell.

Would prefer to see a whole season of Jack Johnson to know what type of player he is?

Unless of course he's a ****** and management has seen enough.

How about Sturm for pick's and a mid level prospect? You guys need cap relief.

this would be a major misuse of an asset, especially for one who just had knee surgery... any Sturm trade would be a dump for picks/prospects...

edit: didn't see you weren't from around here...

I'd only trade him for a player of a reasonably similar age - say 25 or less. I will go nuts if Lombardi trades him for a soon to be 34 yo Smyth (I hate the Avs too. Don't want to contribute to their rebuild).

Man, Jack isn't going anywhere, we need depth on the blueline..

Doughty - Johnson
Quincey - Scuderi
Greene - O'Donnell/Drewiske

If we're trading Johnson, I want Phil Kessel in return

Honestly the only way i'd be happy if we traded jj is if it was for a versteeg/kessel type player. IMO JJ is wasted as an asset for sturm+mid level prospect (whatever would even it out) cause we don't need mid level prospects, we have enough prospects. Honestly unless we are getting young top6 help I see no reason to trade JJ, i feel this next season is his make or break season, if he plays like he did at the WC then he could become that player we were all hoping for, if he stays -18 JJ then he might get moved next off season to make room for other young dmen.

This is what I think as well, I sure hope we hold on to him and just pick up a remaining UFA.

Am i the only one that thinks JJ is not going anywhere?

ODon will probably be sent to the AHL and Hickey will get promoted to the NHL. Just my guess.

As for a winger, we will eventually pick up someone decent on the market. Trade will likely not be the scenario.
