You know, just because you can afford to pay them, doesnt mean they'll sign, right?
You mean YOUR plan.
Ya my plan, you know build a team go far in the playoffs, win a cup. Not draft a team, continue to be bad, draft again, continue to be bad, draft again. This isn't working out to well for us. In the past teams that win do it 3 ways;
1. You need to draft well and build from within (we appear to be doing alright with that)
2. You need to add the right parts with FA signings (we are NOT doing a good job at this, in fact we are one of the worst teams in the NHL at this)
3. You need to be able to make the trades that fill the holes (again, we have NOT been good at this, the O'sullivan deal last year was a complete JOKE)
So are we going to be the first team in the NHL to win a cup on drafts alone? I think not because it can't be done.
YOU CAN'T WIN WITHOUT TAKING SOME RISKS AND MAKING SOME IMPACT MOVES
Yep most of the teams in the bottom of the NHL did something to try to improve today and we sat there with our hands tied looking stupid again for the third straight year.
Tampa - picked up Ohlund and Walker
Colorado - picked up Anderson to help in net
Atlanta - traded for a solid defense man and a guy they can use on the PP
Toronto - picked up Komisarek
LA - looked around thinking what a nice day to go for a walk.
I may be one of the three...I have been patient for 3 years.
Look at the list of the big signings in April, then look at how many of those teams are in the playoffs....not to mention the teams making the moves SUPPOSEDLY had no cap room.
They obviously had cap room....we're saving our 14+ in cap room for something evidently...sure would be nice to know what.
By the time we make our move....the players we do have for a signed for a few years will be up for unrestricted free agency. We are going to become the Oakland A's.
Every year and the same ****ing excuses to the apologists.
Next year Nash and Kovalchuk is a pipe dream! This year had a mad crop and we sat on our hands as usual. Havlat for five a year is an absolute steal and he's only 28! This team has a serious and stubborn commiment to being average.
So much for all the BS about keeping the pick so we can sign a free agent and not lose assets. That came and went. At least they stay consistent on keeping fans depressed and frustrated.
Johnson looked his most comfortable on the right side, last season. Hickey played the right side in Seattle.
Yes but we have Voynov and Teubert coming through the ranks that play RD, in addition to Doughty and Greene already on the team. We can't have all of them.

Begging our prospects to improve at the end of July 1st is sooooooo fitting.
DL is clearly challenging the kids to get better before he makes a drastic move for an impact player. I like it.
Great point. he is not allowing them to grab the crutch that they need help. The talent is there. They need to step up, not look to the outside to get it done. Set expectations high and they will be met.
I wouldn't mind seeing Koivu brought in at a good price for 3 years to center the 2nd line.
Then you are going to move Stoll or play him on the wing? You can't move Handzus, we're stuck with him for the next 2 years. Acquiring a center is something I just don't see happening unless it is a long term upgrade in which case I think Stoll would be moved.
