I think both Cammalleri and Gionta were overpaid, especially Gionta, after 05-06 season he has been more like 2nd line forward to me. I wouldnt be so confident that Cammalleri can score 39 goals again and we all know how Gomez's been doing this year.
Well, Gionta put up 60 points this year playing with Elias and Zubrus (the latter of whom is a solid player, but an offensive disaster). He's the type of player who thrives with a playmaking center. Since Gomez swam across the river for the money, noone he has played with could really get him the puck in good scoring locations. I'm interested to see how they click now that defensemen and teams in general have adjusted, since their career year together was the year where defensemen had a hard time adjusting to the post-lockout rules. He did get overpaid, but despite his size he brings a surprising amount of grit and tenacity to his game, and he'll never stop hustling. He plays the power play and kills penalties and is always a threat for a quick break. He plays with the same sort of fire that Koivu does - part of the reason why I want Koivu on the Devils.
But that being said, he's family and he played for the Devils so I have some bias.
Yes, most overpaid 1st line.
If they all score at a point per game pace, they start to look worth it, but for now they`re definitely the most overpaid.
Two of these guys exceeded 100pts. One had back-to-back 50 goals seasons, the other is a leader and great defensive player, the youngest has one of the highest PPG average in the leagued and could have easily been the best pointer twice had it not been from injuries. When things go wrong, yes they are overpaid, but when everything goes right, they make it to the Stanley Cup Finals or have one of the greatest season beginning ever. These guys have the potential to be one of the most dangerous line we've seen in the past 20 years...why am I even saying this when you already know this and better than me at that.

He probably knows that, but the funny part was that the Pizza line is worth 19 million while this new Montreal line is worth 18 million, Pizza line is miles better and is only 1 million more expensive.

Ottawa line is obviously a lot better and proven.
Yet, someone could comes up with this:
A combine of 200 pts last year for the Montreal Trio.
A combine of 219 pts last year for the Ottawa Trio.
A difference of 19 pts or 8.7% less for the Mtl trio.
for
A 1 Million$ difference or 5.3% less for the Mtl trio.
Hurray... (The Mtl trio play as a whole 239 games to 243 games for the Ottawa one). Pro-rate to the same, the production was 203 vs 219... Here's your million.
Bottomline: Everyone expect that line to produce and i cant see Gomez closing next year with 58 pts again.
And Ottawa line will have to rebound, because they certainly didnt earn their current salary last year if you are considering that new Montreal trio to be the most overpaid one in the nhl.

Ah come on, Ottawa had a terrible year. Look at the production this line had past seasons, it was the best offensive line out there. And if Ottawa starts rolling again it might still be the best.
