gaborik is better than havlat for sure, this is a downgrade, good money deal though, he's cheaper.

Gaborik is the better scorer for sure, but better overall game? I'll give the edge to Gaborik but not by much and for $2.5 mil less I'll take Havlat every time.

Havlat @ 5 >> Gaborik @ 7.5

Havlat @ 6.5= Gaborik @ 7.5

you get the picture

Yeah, as far as free agency goes, it's a pretty good deal. I was expecting it to be alot higher after what Gaborik got.

Great, great, great signing for the Wild. They get a player who is truly skilled when healthy, who is a good team guy and who will help define the Wilds new offensive style game. The Wild fans will not be disappointed with Martin Havlat, as he is truly an exceptional player and I feel that the freak injuries of the past will be laid to rest, as he embarks on a new career in Minnesota.

When both are heathly, both will put up similar numbers as well. And the 2.5million cheaper guy is locked for 6 years so Minny fans won't have to have a headache everytime they wake up during the offseason after reading another contract dispute between the agent and the GM...

I like the deal for Minnesota. Havlat, if healthy, can put up over 30 goals a season. He's a good replacement for Gaborik IMO.

Koivu and Havlat would be a nice off-season for the Wild. I like this contract too. Only $5M? Where the hell was Lombardi on this?

Great deal for the Wild, I wish he would've gone out east, but he'll be a solid player for you guys.

Thornton + Heatley = Good time for Sharks fans.

Prove it.

But seriously, I don't think we've seen the end of either of their growth. Injuries have derailed their potential, but they should still improve, Gaborik more than Havlat IMO.

Good deal for the Wild. I still think they need to add something else to help Havlat out and help balance the scoring out.

good for Minnesota, they should compete
I'm sure it stings to have a team replace you when you want to stay, but signing Havlat long term is a major risk. I can't imagine giving Havlat the contract that Hossa got, and that's no disrespect to Havlat.

It just seems like when you break up with a girlfriend - you want to be the one ending it, not the one getting dumped.

The paid Havlat $18M to play in 172 regular season games over 3 seasons, of which he was 100% for about 110 of them, and ineffective the other 60. I loved him when he was on the ice, and just hope he can stay healthy for MINN.

Well Minnesota is a state that gets table scraps on all its teams and loses all its star players to big cities (Garnett, Santana, Moss, Gaborik). We're just happy that we got somebody who might be worth watching instead of another grinder or body for the retirement home.

Havlat: Any chance i could use #24? I've used it all my life.

Boogard: What? If you steal my number you are dead.

Havlat: Hehe, i was only kidding bud. I'll use #14.

Has he fully signed yet? Why does the title still say only verbal agreement?

Yes. I believe he will get $4 million next season, $5 million for each of the following four seasons, and $6 million for the final season.

(It was a verbal agreement at the time of this thread's creation.)

Good signing, but they still need another top 6 forward on the team to cut it in the West. Luckily, they have Harding to trade for one.

A mod should really change it. It looks like it might not happen if it stays as a verbal agreement for too long.
