Kovalev should sign a Zubov-contract

To stay where he says he likes to play, Kovy should sign for a contract similar to the one's Zobov just got.

1yr for 2.15M $

Zubov didn't want to move and realized he didn't need any more money!

What about 3 yrs for 6M $ since Kovy's younger???

I would give Kovalev at most a two year deal but I'd prefer to keep it on a one year at a time basis.

if he indeed is serious about staying then it could be done but he'd get more else where im sure... although personally i'd rather koivu sign a deal like that and trade plek+ for a good young top 4 dman instead..
having said all of that however, i have a question, when does price's contract end?

I don't think it's going to happen...

Gainey said yesterday that Kovalev is done at Montreal... Probably nothing against him cause he offered him a contract prior July 1st...But with the acquisition of Gionta and Cammalleri, things have changed....

Also, Gainey like to keep some space under to cap to get a deal done during the season to fill a need... See Schneider last year... After the RFA signed, we'll have just this little cap space for a trade during the season...

Better start your lines with what we have now

Perhaps Lang would be a better option for a one year deal on the cheap. Right now we need help down the middle more than on the wings.

Interesting .. the Gazette says we are not and that Gainey expects one of S.K, Latendresse or D'Agostini to fill the 2nd line winger spot opposite Plekanec and A.K.

Give Kovalev a long term deal that amounts to the same total but where the $$ is spread out over 5-6 years so that it would only count for 1.6 or so against the cap.

Because he's >35, his cap hit would still count if he retired.
