.NJ fans goodbyes to Gionta... think it's great read for all Habfans and what we all can expect ....
We'll Miss You, Brian Gionta!
For all New Jersey Devils fans who will miss our beloved Brian Gionta!
Brian Gionta has been an integral part of the New Jersey Devils organization since he played his first game with the team in the 2001-2002 season. Despite being one of the shortest players in the NHL, Gionta uses his size to his advantage and has become greatly respected throughout the league for his speed, talent, feistiness, and integrity. His contributions to the Devils over the years are endless. Most notably, he holds the franchise record for most goals in a season, finishing the 2005-2006 season with 48 goals.
However, not only is Gionta an incredible presence on the ice, but he is also a very down-to-earth person as well. He plays every game with his whole heart and will be sorely missed by everyone in NJ.
Gainey will be a god if this even remotely works out ...they will all be worshiping him .I think anyone who isnt intrested in seeing if this will work again isnt a hockeyfan..great storyline....hopefully as a Habsfan these guys can find the magic once again .
at least, he IS in front of the goalie. Something we were lacking last year
In no way did I want to whine on his size. I wanted to clear that out. Although we overpaid a bit, I like all our new players. But hey we HAVE to overpay so be it. I do see a re-tool like the bruins did with Chara and Savard after kicking Thornton out. They gave them LOTS of money for the time, most people laughed at them but they built around those players with young hard working talent. See the pattern here?
We got ourselves Camalleri, Gomez and Gionta. This is some serious talent to build around. No need for a Chara we already got the general! Lapierre, Latendresse, The Kosty bros, Price, Halak, Weber, Subban, Pacioretty, Maxwell, Plekanec, Gorges and lots more where it came from. I say we are serious contender not this year, but next for sure. Some kids will break out big eventually. A Kost and Lats are due.
He does but he's one of those players that's always at the right place at the right time, which we didn't have in a really long time.
Also everytime we played the Devils it looked like Gionta always played his best hockey against us,now he will be burning the Leafs and Bruins!!
My favorite part about Gionta is that he never takes a shift off. That has been my impression of him always ... too many people last year were taking entire weeks of. This guy and Cammalleri don't take shifts off. Gionta also is not afraid to go into the hard places, the corners, the front of the net etc... and is responsible defensively.
