Since this question was going to be asked at some point.

Who would you rather have going into next season? You can consider cap hit if you want. We lost Feds and Kozzie and now we've got Knuble and Morrison.

Knuble and Morrison or Fedorov and Kozlov?

If you take into account of how Feds played in the playoffs and at the end of last season ... him and morrison are IMO a wash.

Although the Semin will make Morrison (if they play together) look much better.

Knuble > Kozy for effort, cap hit, and crashing the net constantly.

so better with the oh canadas

The Canadains, if only because of the cap situation.

Knuble > Kozlov if only in terms of complementary style (or at least we hope, of course you never know until you see it in practice)
Fedorov > Morrison no question, but Morrison's contract > Fedorov's would have been

OT(ish), but is anyone else finding it hard to start spelling Morrison with only one n?

Fedorov and Kozlov did a ton for us. Kozlov helped the top line click immensely for pennies on the dollar and Fedorov has been a solid if not spectacular player who scored the two biggest goals of the last 2 years. I'd wait for Knuble and Morrisson to actually play a game before anointing them as superior. Right now I feel like on average we lost out in functionality unless Morrisson regains his form.

The thing that nobody will mention is that not only is Morrison probably going to top Federov's point total (though maybe not his p/gp), he will take far fewer penalties doing it.

Knuble is obviously a huge improvement over Kozlov, both in stats and intangibles.

In my view this is no contest. The one thing we can't replace is Federov's experience, but Knuble and Morrison are pretty experienced themselves.

Intangibles only go so far... maybe 500k worth, not 2mil. Morrison @ 1.5mil >> Fedorov @ 4mil.

Knuble is like Kozlov, but much grittier, will take a beating in front of the net and a better PP specialist.

Knuble and Morrisonn>Kozlov and Fedorov.

I just hope it's enough to win the big prize.

If McPhee manages to sign Semin and Backstrom this summer and dump Nyles, I'll be very happy.

All things being equal salary wise, I would take the two Russians. Knuble is an upgrade over Kozlov, Mo2 is a downgrade from Feds.

Knuble edges Kozlov, I think. The big ? is whether Morrison (man is it nice to spell that normally) on the recovery is better than Fedorov on the decline. I'm not really sure there's a way we can know that right now, but even with Feds' intangibles, I think it's at worst a wash.

I think this all hinges on Morrison's health. If he's fully healthy, with no lingering effects from the wrist and knee injuries, he'll bring more offensively than both Fedorov and Kozlov. While neither Knuble nor Morrison brings the same level of experience/leadership on their own that Feds did, I think they both trump Kozzy pretty significantly in that regard.

Feds did a lot for us but he came too expensive.

Kozlov did a lot for us, but he was no solution.

Now Knuble might solve a lot of problems we had in the offensive end, so definetely the canadian boys. We'll see if Morrison can have any kind of impact too...but in any case, I'm counting on Knuble to do that.

I went with Knuble and Morrison. I agree with the people on here saying Knuble will drive the net more. I love Feds but he definitely slowed down last year. Morrison has healed from his injury and I believe can still perform in this league, esp with Semin as a linemate. Good signings by GMGM.

I found this very encouraging post from an older thread about Morrison that was created before he signed with the Capitals (it's from a Ducks fan.)

"I'll try and break this down from me watching every ANA game last season.

B.M and Selanne played mediocre with each other. Morrison had very streaky play which was more leaning towards the side of a below average centerman. When B.M was waived he was just starting to improve his play and using his speed.

When I watched a few Dallas games against us B.M was the person I could not keep my eyes off of. I was amazed on how much he improved since being waived off. With this offseason and some conditioning I think he'll put out 50-60 pts this season."

Bruins fan and a Caps follower (Ovechkin admirer) here:

I voted Knuble/Morrison.
Knuble is way grittier than Kozlov, if somewhat less talented - I loved Big Mike when he was playing for Boston. Terrfic addition, congradulations Caps

Fedorov maybe trmendously skilled and experienced and scored some pretty huge goals for the Caps in the last 2 seasons, but he is 38 years old and would command a lot more money than Morrison.

P.S. Mike Knuble is an American. Of Latvian descent

I'm curious about the chemistry of the team. Ovechkin is naturally the featured piece and with his being Russian I wonder what the loss of his countrymen will have in the locker room. Before you think I'm predicting doom I actually think this may be a good thing for Ovy and his next steps as a player. I'm wondering if this will make him MORE of a leader.

Just looking for opinions on what y'all think will happen to the team chemistry with this country of origin shift

Ovechkin will have Semin and Varly...Also, Green and Backstrom hang out with Ovie just as much as anybody else.
