Islanders sign trio of AHLers

per Chris Botta

The NY Islanders have signed LW Jeremy Reich, D Brett Westgarth, and G Scott Munroe.

My guess is Reich actually makes the team to have someone to watch out for Tavares while the other two are AHL depth.

They signed Brett Westgarth not Kevin. Couple tough guys and a goalie.

I guess these signings only leave one unresolved question...who does Doug Weight hand the cup off to next June?

I think Snow forgot that NHL free agency has begun. Someone better let him know.

They had to sign Reich to match up against Big Donald.

Because they like overpaying the veterans who are still not signed after a week

Send a message via AIM to Giroux tha Damaja
Munroe should be interesting to see if he gets any games next year. He had a good year in the AHL and was Philly's only goalie prospect even close to NHL capable. I am sort of surprised they didn't hang onto him, but I think he wanted a 1-way deal which Holmgren wouldn't do.

Hope the Isles get more than Reich and Westgarth. They were better with Recihlicz!

I was thinking more along the lines of a Munroe for GM joke. Wocka wocka!

Because a rebuilding process happens through the draft, not through handouts on the first day of free agency.

I understand that there's a lot of optimism surrounding the Isles right now because of Tavares, Okposo, Bergenheim and the like, but this team is still 2 or 3 years at best away from being a contender. Sad but true.

Because if we sign all these big names we would be like the rangers and have nothing to show for it.

We are rebuilding, no point in throwing money away at players that are not going to help us. Most Islander fans are content with how its going . We do need a real enforcer, another d man and a winger would help

1) The Economy

2) Wang's economy

3) The Isles just saw their fanbase go nuts over the celebrity promise of a #1 draft pick. Their tickets sales increased significantly, according to some reports. Why do anything else if your customers have such low standards as to accept a cheap roster of kiddies with the promise of some abstract future?

Forty-one homes dates, full of "Tavares Hot Chocolate Givaway" nights, and a lot of "close" losses. (And, of course, this meme, next April: "But remember all the mangames we lost to injury. You simply cannot replace injuries to the Andy Sutton and Freddy Meyers of the World.")

Give the people what they want (and deserve). If it comes cheap, even better!

No one in his/her right mind would expect NYI to spend like NYR or anywhere like it. Nor can they buy their way to anything; no team can. And economic realities cannot be ignored. However, one would have hoped that Wanger/Snow would be sensitive to putting their prize kiddies and his cohorts in a position to succeed, as opposed to throwing them out en mass to the wolves. An enforcer and a legitimate NHL winger would have been nice; perhaps they will still come.
