it isn't about "mentoring" the defense. it's about fostering a winning attitude across the board... showing what it takes to win and what is and isn't acceptable.
i guess he thinks we'll be better than at least Dallas...

No doubt he is probably not worth 3.4 million but he is a good signing nevertheless.
Pretty obvious DL has to overpay to sign any free agent to come here.

This is the 3rd summer in the row I've considered becoming a Ducks fan. Lombardi pushes me a little more each summer....

I don't care if we over payed by a million per year, Scuderi is a piece to the puzzle and a safe free agency buy.

Honestly, in another year or two, who isn't going to be better than Dallas?

It makes sense regardless because of the need for a veteran defenseman.

Obviously the much bigger need is help up front, but since DL couldn't land that via free agency he's got to work on plan B which means shoring up parts of the team that may be involved in some sort of trade.

WTF are you talking about?
Last 5 games Ove had against Pit he had 10pts. that isn't shutting him down.
You can like the signing but don't ******** yourself.

Isn't that exactly what he's against? Isn't his whole plan to capitalize on other teams' misfortunes and get bargains later on? Again, I'm not against this signing. Scuderi should be great for us, and I can see guys like Drewiske and Teubert getting a lot out of playing with him. It's just a strange contract at a strange time. But I am going to love a Greene - Scuderi pairing on the PK. Hello zero shots on goal

Does he think that he has signed with Anaheim? Does he know the Kings haven't been in the playoffs in 7 years?

I don't see this as a plan B at all... we needed experience on the back end regardless... the need was even greater if jumped and made our big move with any high priced forward...

This is a fallacy.

You don't know what kind of dollars it would have taken to get Havlat onto this team. Probably more dollars than you are guessing.

Anyway there's more to picking a team than dollar figures. Length of contract and other contract terms, of course, are essential to it. Also, maybe Havlat just liked the Wild more. GMs make the offers but players hold all the cards during UFA signing season.

I think Havlat's signing had a lot more to do with the 6-year term that the Wild were willing to give him, and which Lombardi rightly would not go anywhere near. Players with chronic injury histories shouldn't get 6-year signing terms IMO.

Doughty is Doughty

Quincey was at best only OK in his own zone

OD was the d-dman to begin with, but... he became a pylon as the season wore on

Gauthier... too many mistakes.

Drewiske has the potential, but he's a rookie, and this is something we need experience for.

We added a ring to our team, and quite frankly, the cap won't matter to us on this small of a scale until the team is ready

Doughty Number 8, meet Matt Greene.

That's something I would never even consider, no matter how bad things got here.

Have fun, the Ducks board is only a click away. I'm sure they'll enjoy your "Outlook."

I just can't take my Kings anymore.....I have not had one happy summer in over 15 years following this team.

When will get the "it" guy...or the guy that we really wanted...

I wanted Pittsburgh to resign Scuderi but he's not worth 3.4 million. It's funny how DL will overpay for a defenceman but he will not overpay for a proven scorer? Don't you guys need a top 6 LW? As good as Dean Lombardi is at drafting players he's equally as bad at signing free agents.
