Well, Brad Richards is a lefty, which I'm sure is who Torts would be dying to get.

But another hefty contract just seems like a bad idea to me, and we would most likely have to get rid of Dubinsky and some young guys for him.

No not lying... but the delivery is more succinct with Torts. Renny always has that rehearsed vibe to his answers...With Torts you get the ugly around the edges answers

You mean he was articulate and used big words that some Ranger fans are not accustomed to. Right?

Wish I heard this, but good recap all.

I think Dubinsky IS the young player you exchange for Richards, and I assume the other component is Redden if you're going to make it work financially.

Of course, then you've potentially got a real shortage of experience on the blueline and not a lot of cap flexibility to fill it.

What's better for this team? Assume Gabby can generate the offense without the ideal center, or hope he can generate SO much offense with the ideal center that you can foresake the defense?

Maybe Torts feels that theoretically a left-handed center would be a better fit to play with Gaborik since passes to the RW would be made on his forehand instead of his backhand.

Does Dallas have any cheap d-men they can send to us with Richards?

I bet Sather is working the phones on getting Saku in the mix and moving Rozsival..........If by some miracle someone takes Rozies 5 and they take back a 2 million Dman, they could sign Saku for 3 million per........give him 2 years as most wont with his injury issues

I'm of the belief that upgrading at center isn't a requirement, but if Torts is dead set on doing so, it almost has to be through trade.

I agree, I just don't see how Richards could possibly work. He makes too much even if the Rangers trade someone

Usually better chemistry with a left hand center feeding a right winger. Also important for faceoffs in your end.

Saku's getting a lot more than $3MM. He made $4.75MM last year

I think he's referring to Brad Richards with the center thing... Lefty, decent size and someone he knows.

Clearly he pushed for the Brashear thing and he also wanted Neil. He wants guys who can hit. There just aren't enough players on this team who can hit with some serious strength. Not just enough to run into someone, but actually hit hard enough that people don't want to get hit.

Exactly... And it was a shame too because he was sucha good fighter. Brashear can definitely hit. He's got pretty good speed and is more competent around the puck.

Torts and the Rangers wanted Neil... Perfect guy who can play on the third line and contribute offensively as well. EXTREMELY hard hitter who was tough to play against. Sucks that didn't work out...

yea, blows we couldn't get Neil.

Really glad Torts thinks we need to be harder to play against.

The thing I love most about the people that miss Orr is the fact that they think he was some sort of deterrent. If this was in any way the case, why was the guy we just signed allowed to do what he did to Betts. If Torts was the driver behind getting Orr out of town I feel even more confident in him. I am loving what I am hearing from this guy.

I think he just told you that Dubinsky is going to be your number 1, because I don't really see who else is coming in here. I'm not thrilled about jumping on Koivu and I'd say everyone else is going to be prohibitively expensive. Besides, they're at the point where it would be cutting it close to bring in another big acquisition without moving a contract, and I don't think you can move either Redden or Rosy until someone else steps up. I think two is the absolute maximum amount of rookie defensemen that you can go into the season with.
