I like Jim Hughson alot. He does a great job. Chris Cuthbert is good. I know Bob Cole is a homer, but to me his voice is hockey. Kinda like Ernie Harwells voice was baseball. I also like Dave Strader at ESPN. This is sorta a homer pick because he used to be the Red Wings play-by-play guy. He was great with the Wings. I think he is ESPN-alized (new word??) now, and I dont think he is nearly as good as he used to be. But he is the best of the ESPN bunch for sure. And I like the Kings guys too....dont know the names right off hand. But they do a pretty good job.
Even though he's probably the biggest homer in the league Ric Jeanette. Lalalalalalalafontaine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He just makes the games exciting, even if your a team of the opposition. Also I'm not that great at remembering all the announcers names and which teams they do play-by-play for, so if possible it would be nice if you guys could mention the team they announce for =P
A bit of a homer pick, but Bob Miller (Kings announcer) is solid. I like Pierre Maguire a lot, although he seems to have his detractors. Understandable because Maguire kinda has the 'know it all' attitude about him.
Cuthbert is the best guy on CBC
TB's guys are good too, not sure of their names. (I think its TB that Im thinking of)
Tampa's announcers are Rick Peckham (sp?) and Bobby Taylor. They make a pretty good team but I think Rick is kind of a dud sometimes. Their radio announcer Dave Mishkin needs to go. Whenever someone scores for the Lightning, he sounds like he should be singing for the Vienna Boys Chior.
I would have to say that I like Bob Miller too. Back when I used to live in the L.A. area he and Nick Nickson where cool. I can't say I liked it when they moved Nick to the radio and brought in Jimmy Fox.
Everyone on ESPN/ABC needs to go. However, the one I can't stand the most is the arena announcer at Joe Louis. No offense to Wings fans, but the guy sounds like he's a hundred years old and can't even get names pronounced right on the home team. Has he ever said Vyacheslav right?
Canadian play by play guys all seem to have announcer voice syndrome. That is that when they talk in conversation when play is stopped they use one voice and a completely different voice when the puck is in play. i hate that.
doc emrick is as good as it gets. john forselund gets and honorable mention.
