Keep JJ. Depth on D is a good thing.

I think a JJ for Kessel swap makes sense. You guys are 8 deep on D at this point and the JJ situation has been odd this offseason to say the least.

You would have to include Moller, however, to make this deal work. Kessel scored 36last year and while JJ could break out and become a dominant defenseman he really hasnt done anything in his career yet to make him worth a player of Kessel's ilk.

For the Bruins. The Kings don't need another right winger.

Evidently if Chiarelli is moving Phil Kessel, it's because of a salary dump. If we're trading Jack Johnson, who is a RFA and waiting for a payday, for Phil Kessel, who happens to also be a RFA, it would make no sense for Boston. They'll be asking for high prospects and picks..

To LA: Phil Kessel

To Boston: Thomas Hickey & 2010 1st

Frolov - Kopitar - Williams
Kessel - Stoll - Brown
Moen* - Handzus - Simmonds
Clune - Lewis - Richardson

Doughty - Johnson
Greene - Scuderi
O'Donnell - Quincey

Quick
Ersberg

*= Hopefully we can sign him..

I think this is a fair deal, what do Bruins fans think?

Bruin season ticket holder since 1983 and can tell you Kessel is electric; I live near the practice rink and my kids like to watch, and he is worth just watching in practice. Like seeing a great hitter take batting practice, he is just beautiful to watch skate and he has moves that are dazzling.

Unfortunately for him he does not fit the vision of big, mother bleeping winger with some skill that Boston hockey ops has programmed into their heads.

I do see Manchester a half dozen times but I am no expert so I'll leave it others the worth of who Boston would get back, but trust me, Kessel may not be perfect, or the perfect player, but none of us, and for what he is good at, it is outstanding.

And disregard any reports of him being a jerk, he is shy, but he roomed with one of my buds kids, and both the parent and kid said other than being a typical teenager, he was polite, respectful, a good kid, and once you got to know him he opened up and had a good sense of humor. He could also laugh at himself....

you get him...enjoy, you will like him

This is absolutely mind-boggling to me. Kings fans see Kessel's numbers and start drooling. But Kessel ONLY plays on the RIGHT side. Every single person that has posted any kind of line up or line combination lists Kessel on the left. Now look, I live in Boston and went to about 20 Bruins games last year and watched about 50 more. I know he is talented. I know he is starting to complete his game. I know he still has a ton of upside because he is only 21.

But people the Kings do NOT need another RW. And Kessel has NEVER played on the left. Unless you want to trade Williams or play one of Williams, Kessel, or Brown on the third line this trade makes NO sense.

Just a small point....can we please stop refering to Johnson as an RFA.

He is not a free agent in any sense of the word. His status is like a prospect without a current contract.....he does not have any of the advantages that other RFA's do.

The only thing that makes the Johnson "situation" odd is the spectulation being thrown around this and other message boards by those with no direct knowledge of any contract negotiations between Lombardi and Johnson's agent.

Kessel is not a Lombardi type player and I make that statement based purely on what I've read about him. Conversely, Johnson is and Lombardi has mentioned him as a core player on the Kings.

I would rather the Kings keep and re-sign Johnson. He is going to be a great defensemen. I felt coming out of Michigan he should have spent a year in Manchester instead of jumping straight to the Kings. Learning the pro game at the highest level is a tough task.

Well then there seems to be a lot of smoke. No idea on the situation, merely just commenting on what I have heard and the pieces could fit.

You guys have 8 legit NHL defenseman. JJ is a RFA and is likely looking for more money than his actual production dictates (wants to be paid on potential). Kessel is a guy who can play both center and RW and had 36 goals as a 21 year old last year and missed a month with mono. Furthermore 34 of those goals were ES. No offense to your current RW'ers, but he would provide a much needed spark to your attack and really round out your team. The Bruins are the ones assuming a ton of risk in a deal like this as JJ at 22 has proven very little in the NHL.

thank god Lombardi is the GM here and prefers defense over offense...

So... what about L.A. 3,5 million offersheet for Kessel

Boston: nothing except the Picks

BTW Johnson is not able to switch the teams.
He isn't even qualified for arbitration....... so he gets what Lombardi want.
But Lombardi is clever enough not to piss him off and sign him long term
