Then can you explain how he's managed to play in the top six on two separate Stanley Cup winning teams in the last five years?

Because that has worked out for you so well to this point.

Relax. From one Pens fan to another, he didn't attack us. He doesn't believe that Tank is a top-6 player, to me he's borderline second/third liner, so he has a legitimate case. And Minnesota took a team of Fedotenko's and worse (sans Gaborik) to the West Finals in 03. No need to sling drunk-from-the-Cup insults at other fanbases, it'll give us a bad name.

1.8 for Fedotenko is good deal, but..

He isnt top 6 forward imo, playing with Malkin can get your numbers up. He is that top 7-8 guy, playing third line minutes but if someone gets injured in the top 2 lines he can fill the spot.

right now his other winger is either Dupuis or Talbot so on this team he is a top 6.

This is the real NHL we are talking about here, with real limitations and a salary cap, not an All-Star or Olympic team.
Fedotenko is top 6 on every NHL Team.

Nice signing, can't believe he took so much less. If he plays a full season he'll be good for 20-25-45 and show up in the playoffs. Not bad for 1.8.

He may not be top 6 on other teams, but he is for us and he fits in quite nicely.

1.8 is absolute highway robbery.

He's a legit top-6 forward, I think. His stats may look like a 3rd liner because he gets next to no powerplay time. But his 15 ES goals was just as much as Selanne, and 1 less than Alfredsson and Zherdev.

He's also one of those players that does things that result in goals while not necessary getting on the scoresheet for it. Like finish off a defenseman in the corner, draw someone to the net, screen the goalie, etc.

I'd call him more of a 6/7 top six guy. He's certainly not out of place in the top six, and his effort is good enough that even when the bounces aren't going his way he's still a somewhat effective player (unlike some 'legit' top six guys like Sykora who is beyond useless when not putting the puck in the net). I'd be more comfortable if he was on the third line for sure, but he's filled a top six role on two champions now and was one of the players that adapted the best to Bylsma's system ('Ruslan Hockey', as he calls it).

To say I'm ecstatic with this signing is an understatement. I figured it would take at least the same money over multiple years to get him to stay, and that would be with him taking a discount.

that is an absolute amazing deal. Holy crap. He is a hard nose player, and he steps it up in the playoffs. Plus, he is absolutely amazing in the Penguins new system. If healthy he is an absolute lock for 25 goals, and of those probably 18-20 will be even strength.

That is excellent value.

He put up the same #'s in NY and he was actually on pace to do better in Pittsburgh, he also did not play with Malkin for most of the season, he was moved up and down from the 2nd to 3rd line. At one point Fedotenko, Staal and Kennedy were on fire and they were kept together.

He would have scored 25 goals in the regular season last year if he wasn't hurt.

Dan Bylsma calls the Penguins style of play "Fedotenko hockey". I don't care if he is top six on other teams, he is a perfect fit for the Pens.

We now have our top 3 lines and top 4 dmen all intact after winning the cup. Alot better than last year when everyone thought we had no chance.

I'm not sure exactly how to feel about this. I love what fedotenko did for us this year. I think he earned a pay raise and 2-3 years on this team. That's just my opinion. Now that he took a pay cut for 1 year, I'm hoping Shero makes use of the extra cap room that Fedotenko gave us.

This means, get rid of Dupuis and get a decent defender or winger with the money you save from Fedotenko's 1.8 and losing Dupui's 1.4. Geez can you imagine, Dupuis at 1.4 and Fedotenko at 1.8? That's a steal.

I hope Shero makes good use of the room he now has to deal Dupuis and get another good player (please be a hard working type).

As a pengiuns fan, feds is way to inconsistent for me in the regular season, but I'm sure he got signed for his post season play.

Always liked Fedotenko, even in Philly. Love the enthusiasm and effort he brings.

Kunitz-Crosby-Guerin
Fedotenko-Malkin-Talbot
Cooke-Staal-Kennedy
Rupp-Adams-Dupuis

Only lost Satan, Sykora up front? Pretty good.

Gonchar-Orpik
Letang-Eaton
Goligoski-Lovejoy

Lost Scuderi, Gill, Boucher... only one that hurts is Scuderi.

Fleury
???

Good job keeping the team together up against the cap.

In a cap world, most teams are not going to have 6 true, Top Six players anymore. Unless they don't have a good goalie (see the Flyers), or have a significant hole somewhere else.

In today's cap reality, every team is going to have some players that aren't Top something.

Not that it's a huge deal, but those guys aren't even lost yet. Rumor is they have interest in Sykora if he comes cheap, which he should.

i have a this feeling in the pit of my stomach that Sykora will sign a 1 year deal at 1.5 or 1.4

Because adding guys like Fedotenko is what took you guys from the laughing stock of the league to the cup. Minnesota has plenty of Fedotenkos (Nolan, Brunette,Miettinen, Clutterbuck) they are short on the Malkins and Crosbys
