I'll take the word of Avs fans over these Oiler fans that are probably still sour over what happened a few years ago. Avs fans that say Smyth was their best player last season and even though he has a terrible contract say that Smyth will be missed.
Doesn't surprise me.

In fairness to certain Oilers' fans, they often check their ***holes for opinions.

That takes a lot of the sting out of Smyth's salary cap number.

The anti-Lombardi crowd wanted Lecavalier, Heatley, would have died to get Gaborik on a long term deal, and would have settled for Havlat on a 6 year deal, so while your argument may hold a cup full of water, I think there is a hole in your one gallon bucket.
And just like that, we're back to square one...

I think we still need a point shot. Right now, we're going to have to rely on JJ, Dought, Stoll and Harrold for the PP. The prospect of Harrold playing every game is scary!

Not if Hickey or Voynov make the team.

I would not be surprised to see a JJ/Doughty pairing on the PP that plays nearly the entire PP. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Doughty stayed out for the entire 2 minutes to work with Stoll as well.

This getting in shape **** is serious!

Question: Any particular Kings players jump out at you?

SMYTH: ``Quite a few. Over the years, playing for my country, I got a chance to see Kopitar before anybody really knew who he was. I remember lining up against him at the faceoff circle and seeing how dominant and powerful he was. He has tremendous upside. I just know he's a pretty exciting player to watch. Obviously, Stoll, because I got a chance to play with him in Edmonton. Drew Doughty is a tremendous hockey player. For a young player to come in and do what he did, that was tremendous. Like I said, I'm just really excited by the upside that's there.''

Oh Smyth is gonna get along juuuuust fine with Terry Murray, or should I say they will have a tremendous relationship!

I think with Scuderi on the PK and Ryan Smyth on the PP and in front of the net we win 5-10 more of those one goal games and we aren't shut out nearly as often.

My faith has been restored. Playoffs is more than a possibility.
by indentical numbers i'm talking SV% and GAA

To get back to square one, you first have to leave square one.

Ron never will. After all he just compared apples to oranges.

Smyth has intangibles that I don't think Lombardi sees in Heatley, Lacavalier, Gaborik, or Havlat. I would prefer that his contract only had two years remaining on it instead of three, but nothing is perfect.

You know, most of you know that I am an avid Lombardi hater but I do not do it blindly. I like this trade quite alot. As much as I like Quincey, we have Doughty and hopefully the continued progression of Johnson, plus wildcards in Hickey, Voynov and Martinez maybe as good puckmoving defensemen for the team making Quincey expendable. Preissing was never going to work here either, he basically had negative value for the trade.

Smyth is definatly a "Lombardi" player, a great character guy, a very hard worker and as a bonus can score goals. He is getting older but can still score and can add lots of grit to this team. Exactly the type of player we needed to add to the top six.

WARNING: guys don't go to the Oilers board. There talking crazy talk and making bets if the kings will make the playoffs this season or not. They keep mentioning why we traded Moeller (???wtf) . DL reading KL handbook for a quick rebuild (????) I regret going there.

It's a cluster**** to be sure.

The product of one poster picking a fight with the entire board.

I have a very strong feeling we are going to see a lot of Hickey in LA this year. And not because we're rushing him...

Yeah, it'd probably be wise to avoid all of us Oiler fans right now. We're in a very fragile state since we all thought the Edmonton gongshow would be over when Lowe was "promoted".

In regards to Smyth, you guys are getting a player who will lead by example and do whatever it takes to win hockey games. Ryan Smyth is an exceptional player and despite that he will not live up to his cap hit, he's definitely going to be a fan favourite for you guys.

It's sad being an Oiler fan when our management has no sense of direction or plan while teams such as the Kings are making all the right moves to become a top team in the west. Good luck to you guys next season, hopefully Smyth wins that Cup he deserves.

Kind of been popping in and out long enough jut to notice Scuderi/Smyth additions, so I may not be the first to suggest it, but can we officially call the Los Angeles Kings' "rebuild" over? Are we finally moving into uncharted territory yet or what?
