Woohoo! I LOVE this deal.

Although... calling Quincey nothing more than a 4th defenseman is ludicrous. He's a serviceable #2 and pretty darn good #3 that could potentially be a legitimate top pairing guy. Even so, this deal was still very worth it. There was no fleecing, it was a matter of Colorado a big contract and getting a very good young defenseman back. We happen to have plenty of them so it works out for everybody.

I'm on board w/ this deal also for the fact that there is now a JOB to be won on defense in camp. I'm a big fan of drewiske and personally i'm hoping he gets that last spot. They played him on the PP at the end of the year and i thought he looked pretty good out there. I love this deal for so many reasons.

Hammond now reports that the trade is not finalized pending physical exams. Cross our fingers that Preissing is long past that strange vertigo.

I am INSANELY happy right now. SO nervous until the terms were announced. Everyone has already stated the obvious wizardry Dean just pulled off.

But I gotta ask...when is the LAST time we have hosed another team like this and been on the winning end? It feels SO DAMN GOOD ON THIS SIDE!!!!!

Dean.....you are a WITCH!!!

We weren't going to get Smyth for complete crap and getting them to take Preissing is a bonus.

Smyth seems like the perfect fit for Brown and TM. I'm glad we didn't give up JJ, Moller, Hickey, Bernier, Teubert, or any 1st rounders.

Quincey is good but I believe JJ can fill his spot on the PP and Hickey isn't far away.

Stoll, Johnson and Doughty should have that covered. Smyth should get some great garbage goals for us.

Quincey put up some nice numbers, but he's a bit overrated around here.

Scuderi >>>> Quincey.

With this deal, we're only taking on 2.9M in salary. I like it.

DL is a genius; this was an awesome deal! Smyth's contract gets smaller each season.

Kings have only $5M left under the cap?

How did AEG spend money so fast...?

We traded for Andrew Alberts about 9 months after we almost put him out to pasture. They get over it.

Actually the Kings should still have around $7 million in cap space since most sites had Preissing included in our cap hit even though he was in Manchester.

Plenty of space for JJ and maybe Versteeg.

WOW!!!

Another couple of minutes and I would have been in bed and not seen this until tomorrow morning. Good deal for both teams. I love Kyle Quincey, but if Smyth is half decent he's a great fit. Better than the finesse guys - Gaborik, Havlat, etc. - IMO. (Not Hossa though.) Sign Johnson and Frolov and we are off to the races.

Smyth - Kopitar - Williams

Frolov - Stoll - Brown

Simmonds - Handzus - Moller

Top 9 looks really solid!!! Maybe we can go after a 2nd line center that can be an upgrade over Stoll. I like Stoll and I wanted Kovalev, but with this trade I think our weakest point is 2nd lin center.

You have to consider that even if KQ had a good season in 09/10, he was going to be due for a big raise right after Jack and right before Drew. With Greene and Scuderi's contracts already in play + Hickey coming in on an entry level deal....not to mention Quick possibly emerging from his ELD as the #1....it was going to get complicated back there, doughwise.

Kings needed a winger, they identified a great need for the team, a GREAT need for the locker room, and pretty much the perfect all-around player for where this club is right now in the maturation process.

I hope he does well for you guys. Smyth was good for us even though the rest of the team sucked hard. In some ways, I'm glad he's gone to a team with a brighter potential, as Edmonton screwed him over and Colorado is trying to rebuild (gonna be a long four years). You'll love him for his spirit and energy.

As for the Avs being hosed, I would disagree. There aren't many teams in the league who can afford a 60-point gritty player who has a cap hit of 6.25 million a season for three more years. LA was really the only option outside of maybe Atlanta or the Isles.

Wow, im actually shocked. I expected to come to the Kings board and see everyone hating this deal. Smyth is injury prone and big time on the decline and is making 6.25 mil a season right now. Really a brutal contract at this point of his career. I'm surprised that Colorado even got back that much in a trade. Even if the Kings didnt give up much they still got back Smyth's contract and that wasnt good.

When the NHL season is over all 1 way contracts count against the cap....bt it doesn't really matter anymore...does it?

In a lot of ways, this resembles a FA deal...

Got Quincey for nothing.
Got Preissing for nothing.
5th round pick.
