I find it easier to not factor him in since we don't know what his hit will be for next season. I don't think we really need to worry about going over the cap during the offseason... not unless DL signs Moen to a 2 year 12 million deal

Now, I want Lombardi to resign JJ and sign Biron. After that, I consider this a very successful summer and look forward to playoffs in April. I'd love for him to resign Frolov but I understand it doesn't have to be now so I can be patient in regard to that.

I am not sure I get you....Frolov is signed until the end of the 2009-10 season. Even if he signs an extension that will be his cap hit for this year.

Quick (.77)
Ersberg (.75)

I'd say this is the known line-up as of now. The other spots are really up for grabs in camp.

That team gives us a hit of 41.587, needing to resign Frolov and JJ and fill in 5 players plus press box players.

At first glance it looks like we're in good shape. Anyone want to take a crack at breaking it down further?
Frolov will make his 2.9, JJ will get a raise up to 3.2, Moller will be on our third line, a enforcer will be on the 4th, maybe Richardson on the wing, Hickey will make the team as the 6th d-man.

Looks good to me!

Hey! Don't you know that Moen is the answer to all our problems??

To the contrary, I'm one that thinks Frolov will be traded, but this does make it somewhat less likely, at least at first glance.

Obviously the clincher in this deal was shedding Preissing's BS contract. Now Dean can focus on re-signing Fro and JJ and if he does.... I'd say it were a successful off-season.

Oh, and I like the sounds of Smyth and Stoll re-uniting on the 2nd line.

I would still like to see Johnson switched out and Beauchemin take his place. But for what we could switch Johnson out for, sign Beauchemin, and still be under the cap, I do not know.

Not to rain on the parade, but both Quincey and Preissing still have to pass a physical. Quincey is coming off major back surgery, Preissing was suffering from vertigo last season. Just sayin'

Not to mention Stoll had his best season, something like 68 points if I recall correctly, playing with Smyth. I'm not sure if they were on the same line but if they were, that's instant chemistry back again.

Plenty of space for JJ and maybe Versteeg.
13,75 before trade(number per nhlnumbers) , with Preissing and Kyle counting and without JJ

so it should be some 9,5 without JJ contract, around 6 if he gets signed( but not less than 5) and if you add Dreweski and Harrold(cca 1,1 cap hit for both) it should leave us with 3,5-5M

You'll love him for his spirit and energy.

As for the Avs being hosed, I would disagree. There aren't many teams in the league who can afford a 60-point gritty player who has a cap hit of 6.25 million a season for three more years. LA was really the only option outside of maybe Atlanta or the Isles.
this^^

I know. I'm scared this won't go through. I can just imagine Kings staff duct taping Preissing as we speak.

Read somewhere that the contract scales down each year... it's 6.5, 5.5, and then 4.5.

The actual money paid goes down....but the cap hit is $6.25 million for all 3 years.

Correct but the cap hit is still 6.25 for 3 more seasons.

13.75 without Scuderi. Scuderi's cap hit is 3.4.

Gotta love the Avs reaction. The more I read that thread, the better I like the trade.

He's not our savior, always been a tad overrated, on the decline now, ugly contract, and Frolov is better. But considering we have a huge hole on the left side, and what we gave up for him, I'm okay with this deal. The playoffs is where we'll see his value.
