The upside on Tom Pyatt

It seems like everyone is forgetting Tom Pyatt in the Gomez deal. 6.0' checking winger/center who played for in the WJC's twice. Every team needs guys like this. Don't forget nobody knew Gorges either.

so where does pyatt fit in terms of development? When will he be nhl-ready and what is his projected role. To phrase it differently, who is he most like?

He got drafted in 2003. I doubt he ever makes it to the NHL

pierre mcguire said how hes kind of like a poor mans Maxim Lapierre he also said he'll never make it in to the big leagues
but Pierre was also being extremely irrational bc he was so upset at the trade

Doesn't matter.

If you go skill wise, the trade goes

Gomez
Higgins
Mcdonagh
Valentenko
Janik
then the two tools we got.

I would have imagined at least Grachev coming back, but no, we get one AHLer and another guy who might not even be able to crack that.

Pyatt was a teammate of chipchura's and then Price on those two WJC teams...

maybe he's been brought in to be the "friend" replacement for Higgins in that lil' group?

seriously though, if this kid does make it to the NHL, I think we will like him. if he makes it to the NHL it will be as a useful 3rd line player, and right now we could use that kind of winger...

Incorrect. Tom was drafted in 2005, one year AFTER Kyle Chipchura and Gregory Stewart. He is only 22 years old, and still on his entry contract.

Actually he was drafted in 2005 as a 4th rounder His numbers in the OHL got pretty good after that

I remember this kid for Saginaw. Hard worker. Scored 43 goals his last season there in 06/07. Plus 33. He's only 22

Come on now, don't confuse the issue with facts - it makes it so much less enjoyable to b*tch, moan and complain around here.

Mcguire also said Pyatt would be the steal of the draft when he was drafted.

You know how they say that a room full of chimps with typewriters will eventually write out Hamlet? Well eventually you will hear Mcguire say everthing at least once.

Possibly the chimps do his commentary for him?

Tom Pyatt is a hard working Center. He has been hampered with injuries but still has been getting better every year. He has some offense, but will probably end up on one of the bottom two lines if he works out. He is a smart two way player. He was kind of buried in the Rangers system. He could get a few games this year, and might be the 1st Center we call up because he has more experience than Maxwell (I don't think management was happy about having to call up Maxwell last year)

I've seen Pyatt a bunch of times in the WJC but also a few times in the AHL.

He's very hard working, never gives up on the play, decent skating, great defensive coverage, and when you can notice it he's got some decent hands as well. His offensive game is underrated, but his defensive game is world class.

I think he could be a very solid checking line player in the NHL in a year or two, though I would like to see him be given an offensive role in the AHL for a stretch to see if he has the offensive potential I think he has.

He's 6' foot and just under 190 LBS. It'd be nice if he had the size of his brother, but unfortunately he doesn't. He just turned 22-years old. He can play centre or wing, whichever works better for his club.

I got to watch him the better part of 4 seasons with Saginaw. I will say that he was the best player i've seen play for that organization since they moved here from North Bay. Like everyone has said, very good work ethic, and it would pay off with plenty of pretty goals. I can't vouch for how he'll translate as a NHL player.

always like Pyatt, he's kind of a mini draper out there. i love how that guy is already written off by habs fan and some media outlet

he's what the habs were hoping to get when they drafted Olivier Fortier in 2007
