Toronto/Vanocouver

to Van
Mike Van Ryn

to Tor
rights to Jannik hansen
3rd 10

Toronto has a log jam on defense and Vancouver could use a top 4 puck moving D-man

wouldn't move the 3rd rounder alone for Van Ryn... just too big an injury risk to take on when you already have the king of injury risks in Salo on our defense... Salo of course is a significantly better dman when he's healthy, but taking a risk on one of 6 guys on the defense is enough... if I'm going to have a 1/3 of our defense locked up with injury-prone guys, I want a guy who's much better than Van Ryn when he's in the lineup - such as a Zubov.

MVR is a good defenseman.

His health is a major issue though. He's Colaiacovo version 2. However, when he plays, he's very very effective.

Toronto will hang on to him, probably. He provides solid depth.

What about Ian White? Would the Canucks be interested in White?

He is still young at 25 years old, not injury prone, got 26 points in 71 games....and that mustache should garner some interest from the ladies in Vancouver!

White isnt going anywhere.

He's improved every single year since he's been with the Leafs. He's just so solid in all aspects of the game. We need our young guys. Sorry fellas.

Also, his beef with Kovalchuck is a pleasure to watch.

Van Ryn would be a good fit in Vancouver...he'd add a good replacement for Ohlund when he's not hurt and give a team built around depth one more piece. Problem is price, I think the leafs would problably be lookign for a single big asset in return....maybe a 2nd round pick straight up. Otherwise he's a good #4 defenceman for us and allows White to jump up when he gets hurt.

I'd take a 3rd rounder for MVR. I don't know how we could expect more, and I'd be happy to not take any salary back. Maybe Stajan and MVR together gives back a valuable asset. Vancouver could use some secondary scoring and that is about what those guys add.

again, no interest all in that!

The Canucks have $4mill in cap space left, and Van Ryn is way too injury prone to give him $2.9mill of that cap space to.... there are still *many* UFA dmen available that could be had at that price or less, that are way less injury prone than Van Ryn is. His value right now - at least until all those guys are gone - is nothing!!

And Stajan of little interest as well... the Canucks have enough forwards already - where would Stajan fit?

he plays either center (Henrik, Kesler/Demitra, Hodgson) or left wing (Daniel, Burrows/Demitra, Raymond)... at almost $2mill, he's not worth keeping on the 3rd line, and not worth bumping a current top 6 player for.

the only NHL player on the Leafs I'd have any interest in is in Kaberle, but the asking price is too high... Van Ryn and Stajan aren't of any interest at all.

and like I said before, with Morris, Boynton, Zubov, Schneider, Beauchemin, Mara, Seidenberg, etc all still unsigned, Van Ryn has no value right now.

no... not even on waivers!! The Canucks have only $4mill in cap space, and there are many other dmen on the market that not only could be cheaper, but fit the Canucks need better.

Finger is the absolute opposite of what the Canucks need - Van Ryn is actually a better fit, although considering his injury history and his price tag, isn't worth it at all either.

Adding Van Ryn to a defense that already features an injury prone Sami Salo makes no sense for the Canucks.

naah. there are still some decent UFA dmen out there that wont cost us a player in return.

Not to mention we still have four defencemen who are +20 points (bieksa 43, Edler 37, Salo 25, Mitchell 23).

What about:

Van Ryn for rights to Hansen + conditional 3rd '10 (if Van Ryn plays 75 or more games)

Don't forget about his stache. That needs to be a clause in his contract.

again, I think every Canuck fan here has already said that they have no interest at all in Van Ryn... none at all... not for a 3rd round pick, not for any prospect, not even on waivers right now!!!

Maybe after training camp, when all the other UFA options are gone, and the Canucks still have that hole on defense, then you consider a guy like Van Ryn... right now, I'd easily let him pass through waivers without a 2nd thought!

I'd rather sign Morris or Mara or Beauchemin or even Eminger, instead of giving up anything for an injury-prone dman who's going to take up nearly $3mill in cap space!

again, Van Ryn is of ZERO interest at all to the Canucks!! We already have a significantly better injury-prone dman on the team... way to big a risk to lock up over $6mill in cap space on a 1/3 of your entire defense with 2 injury prone guys!

Yeah but Colaiacovo was actually pretty healthy last year, so who knows about thinks like injuries... just bad luck really.

I'd hang onto him for now, as he needs to demonstrate that he's recovered from his knee injury at the end of last season, and has little trade value right now. Hopefully MVR can stay healthy for a long strech of time, and Leafs can deal him at the trade deadline, because he's definetly a top 4 defenseman when healthy.

I gave plenty of logical reasons why Van Ryn is completely useless to Vancouver right now... if you disagree, please give an intelligent response to why I'm wrong!

Was MVR injury prone before the ****** from MTL hit him from behind?...MVR is a good player, but being decked like that would turn any player into "Injury Prone"..
