]Most of us do get it, but some of us just cant get it through there head it isnt happening, any proposal about brayden schenn does not express the thoughts or ideas of other leaf fans![/COLOR]
Question: It's an obvious question, but in drafting the way you did, and then signing a guy like Scuderi and trading for Smyth, is it safe to say you're trying to make a statement by bringing in hard-nosed guys?
LOMBARDI: ``No question. I've said it all along; the culture is not built with slogans. It's a process of building with the right people, over time, with your values. This is why this a key piece for us. Kopitar has to learn this. This is the type of guy who, hopefully can bestow values like that on a guy like Kopitar. You saw it at the draft. (Kyle) Clifford... Ironically, in the days leading up to this, teams know better than to ask me for (Brayden) Schenn, but I was pleasantly surprised about how many are asking for Clifford. It's those type of values that people want. That doesn't mean you don't need skill, but it's all about the compete. It's like Scuderi, the same type thing. Solid kid, always been a great teammate.'
Tomas Kaberle ($4.25M for 2 yrs)
Alexei Ponikarovsky ($2.2M for 1 yr)
Michal Handzus ($4M for 2 yrs)
Brayden Schenn
Matt Moulson
Considering the Ryan Smyth deal........ LAK is left with a defense core that includes: Doughty, Johnson, Hickey, Teubert, Greene, Scuderi, O'Donnell, Harrold. Hickey seems likely to play in the NHL this coming year....... but likely not Teubert. And there are several rumours swirling about Johnson potentially being traded. This deal gives LAK Poni: another reliable defensive, top 6 forward similar to Handzus but with more offense..... and a veteran puck moving Dman. LAK only takes on $2.5M of salary due to Handzus coming the other way. Toronto gets little Schenn and a Burke-type NHL ready forward in Moulson.
thoughts?
Seriously forget about getting Brayden Schenn.....he is not coming to the Leafs (no matter how bad Leafs fans want him).
LA wants character players (as Hextall stated in his press conference). The Smyth acquisition makes sense in that regard.....Brayden Schenn is a character player and is just the type of player LA wants to build its core around.
As a Maple Leaf fan, I actually prefer Brayden Schenn play in Los Angeles. To be on the Leafs, Brayden would in fact be in the shadow of his brother and high expectations would follow. This would be too much for a young 18 year old to handle in a hockey crazed market like Toronto, and I don't care how strong the Schenn bloodline may seem.
The best scenario happened for Brayden Schenn. He got to be drafted to a Western Conference team that is far away from Toronto where he can still develop on his own without living in his brother’s shadow.
As for the knock on Nazeem Kadri, this is childish by some fans within this thread. Nazeem Kadri is the perfect player for Toronto, as this is a very multi-cultural city with many Muslims watching other sports. By having Kadri on the Leafs, this opens up a whole new scenario where Muslim kids can now watch a role model play for their team. This was an excellent move by Brian Burke to get a kid from Ontario that can draw more fans that normally would not watch hockey. Kadri can be the best thing that happened to Toronto since drafting Wendel Clark.
I'm a Kings fan, but I'm guessing that you and I have celebrated exactly the same amount of Stanley Cups in our lifetime...zero. But hey, at least your franchise was great once upon a time. More than I can say!

The Kings never benefited from an incredibly corrupt Original 6 system.
They haven't yet benefited from the salary cap also, which was supposed to save small market teams like yourself.
To my knowledge you guys are still stuck in the basement, and were able to get Brayden for the simple fact of sucking more. That said I'm still happy for you guys to get him, and wished that the small group of Leaf fans who still hold out hope of getting him for some reason would just give it a rest. I'm happy with a kid like Kadri who should be our offencive hope for the future.

Yah be proud of that 7th worst overall over our 5th worst overall. All the good it did you guys
Brayden Schenn is a great yonger play with alot of skill... not only because hes Luke's brother that leafs fans what him... Leafs are trying to rebuild and getting a young guy with his skill would go far. He can stay in a deal but not Handzus so i can't see this deal going on.
