I don't think he can play in the NHL this season anyway, I think it's in the rules.

Vastra Frolunda has been eliminated from the playoffs... I don't see why he cannot play.

Well the Devils have signed their guy..

Report: Devils sign Parise

TSN.ca Staff
3/29/2004

Broadcast reports out of North Dakota indicate that University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux star Zach Parise has signed with the New Jersey Devils.

Parise, the son of former NHLer J.P. Parise, tied for the scoring lead at this year's World Junior Hockey Tournament, scoring 11 points for Team USA.

A radio station out of North Dakota is reporting that the Devils have signed the 5'11", 180-pound sophomore centre, a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award this season, given annually to the nation's top college player.

Parise tallied 23 goals and 32 assists in 37 games this season with North Dakota after being selected by the Devils with the 17th overall selection in the 2003 NHL draft.

Matt Stajan was allowed to play for the Leafs (both Baby and the big team) after signing a pro contract when the Belleville Bulls were eliminated from the OHL playoffs last year. And as far as I can remember, the NHL doesn't have a clear day roster for the playoffs like the AHL has...

Noy entirely sure though how the foreign league rule with waivers works for him thouhg, you might be onto something there... I don't know if that rule also applies for players signing their first pro contract... However since he does not need to clear waivers to be sent down, I also don't know if he would have to clear waivers after signing a pro contract, like veterans being signed to the NHL after playing in another league would have to...

Steen would be as good a player on the Leafs as Stajan is at this time.

He was much more impressive in camp then Stajan... has higher potential... and has played at a higher level then Stajan did prior to this season. The reason Matt's in the NHL is because of his smart play... and Steen's a very smart player... with and without the puck.

You'll just have to wait and see... he's a couple levels ahead of Stajan.

Another thing... Ondrej Nemec was signed by Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago... after his European team's season was over.

He's currently playing in the AHL.

Personally I very much doubt it, his play in the SEL this season hasn't demonstrated that he'd even crack our 4'th line in my mind.
He's got talent, and has progressed nicely this year IMHO but I'd much rather wait until he's shown he can dominate in the SEL before bringing him over to North America.

During his slump, he was playing with a tough guy (Jens Karlsson) and a "role player"... on the 3rd line. Prior to being placed on the line with Karlsson, he had a 4 point game and was on pace for 40-50 points.

Then when Karlsson was moved off the line for the playoffs, he was a leading scorer in the playoffs.

They can play in the AHL but not the NHL, they have to be on the roster by a certain time, also many players who play in Europe have to be waived through the league after you sign them. Again I'm sure you can't play in Europe and the NHL in the same season.

if he was so good, why did they move him to the third line? he was slumping, so they moved him down to the third line.

steen's inconsistency should be a big indication that he isn't ready yet. he's got skills, but he clearly has a long way to go.

like all the others before him, he's being overhyped and set up for failure.

After following him throughout the season, Alexander Steen's play is far from inconsistent.

When he doesn't put up points, he's playing a very good defensive game... always putting in the work.

I think the reason he was moved down to the third line was because of Frolunda's depth with Jonas Johnsson and Joel Lundqvist down the middle. Early in the season, Lundqvist was playing poorly which resulted in Steen being moved up.

NHL 2004?

Steen- 81 Overall

Stajan- 75 Overall

then Again Stajan was rushed into that game as every stat is 75 and his face is one of the faces used for Created Players.

EDIT: Oh yeah and the World Juniors, Steen was pretty good during the WJC's I like Stajan a lot as well but I don't know if he could have carried Canada the way Steen carried Sweeden

An airtight presentation. Any bridges to try to sell me while you're at it?

No offense to the Baby Leafs, but I'd rather Steen stay in the SEL for another year than in the AHL.

More impressive than Stajan in pre-season? He played all of three games, how can you make that assumption? Higher potential, maybe but he has yet to play an NHL game Stajan has played in the NHL and shows that he belongs there. I find it difficult to compare Steen with Stajan based on games not played in the NHL. Daigle had high potential but he proved that potential does not always pan out.
