Now that the season and playoffs are over, I thought we'd do an "HFBoards ranking" for each position.
So basically, who (of the following) is the best forward in the NHL? ie. which forward would you want on your team for next year only? (independent of their respective salary)
Patrik Elias. 20th in the league in points (78 points in 77 games vs. 82 points in 82 games for the Sedins). He did this while absolutely carrying the Devil's second line more or less singlehandedly. He is also a fantastic 2 way player. And he scored more playoff points in the last decade than any other player in the league (ahead of Sakic, Forsberg, Lidstrom, and Rafalski in that order).
Add Ribeiro (who has led Dallas in scoring by large margins the last few seasons).
Out of all the great names on that list I'd take Toews on my team any day of the week. He is awesome in every situation and aside from Sakic is the only captain remaining.
i don't think there's any question that, if healthy, havlat is the most complete player left. i've been voting for him since st. louis went off the board. of course, his injury history is a big question, but the next best guy, gagne, has his own concerns in that regard.

I think that's very questionable. Just compare him to Patrik Elias. Havlat had 77 points in 81 games, and Elias had 78 points in 77 games. And Elias has been noted for his two-way play his entire career; this past year, he was one of the Devil's primary penalty killers. And we aren't even getting into questions of durability.
