This is unecessary. The Habs have always spent all the money necessary to complement and make their team better. When guys like Marinaro brings stuff like this into question, its like they think this is a peewee team that has no idea how to run a business. This is the frickin Habs, last year was our 100th anniversary, perhaps he would like to suggest the Habs to also invest on some "computers". Perhaps these "computers" will help them run the company more efficiently . Gosh the Habs are backwards...
actually there is a great discrepancy between what different teams do...
it was just last season that the flames started making full meals ready for the players at the saddledome post game...
iginla was talking about it and about what a difference it had made since a lot of times players would end up just eating poor quality food/pub food while getting a beer with the guys after the game.
I would have thought something like that was a no-brainer for teams decades ago, and yet here we are in 2009 and some teams are just starting to do that.
i heard that the Nucks have undergone similar diet/nutrition changes, plus made pilates/yoga instructors available to players at home and on the road...
not all teams run the same type of programs or offer the same kinds of choices of this nature to the players.
some GM's/coaches probably figure that too much structure is not beneficial, while others will try to structure as much as they can get away with under the contract parameters...
Honestly, it's a joke if professional athletes don't have access to all of this. But then again, Habs practices were a joke to begin with, so why would what they do off ice not be.
I have to LOL at the people who think this type of help isn't necessary when talking about elite level athletes. Olympians get that support, heck college athletes get that kind of support. Proper hydration, proper nutrition, training programs, in-season management of a players physical condition, they're all essential to an athletes performance. I'd be very, very surprised if the Habs didn't have this, but then again, I'm not impressed by hockey clubs in general compared to NFL clubs.
The Habs need to set up a team of specialists just like Toni Marinaro said in which Larry Robinson said he would do if he would get involved with Habs ex: nutritionist, skating coach, sports psychologist and exercise physiologist......
They need this system to be on top of their players in order for them to develop!
The only proven way for a long term athlete performance development of players is to surround them with the proper specialists and this full time or part time!
Take a look at the team of specialists and support structure that the Devils have set up and for which has been successful or take a look at all DIV I,II,II college programs, NBA,NFL,MLB............... They have set up an entire sports performance staff and even a sports performance buffet!
Go Habs Go
Go Bigbird Go
I agree 100%
Hockey is still behind in that aspect.
Just look at Carolina who has one guy doing both athletic therapy and their strength and conditioning!
Talk about old school!!
Then again the Habs are not any better!!!!!!
