I have another question that deserve in the same thread :

Was it the fastest goal scored on a penalty shot in history (26 seconds into the game)?

It was the second-fastest. Rocket Richard scored 12 seconds into a game in 1952.

The second fastest. The first was something like 16 seconds and was done by none other than Maurice Richard.

EDIT: Beat me to it, PrairieHabber! I was close, though... kind of...

I really like that video clip. All the highlights only really show him scoring, but this shows before and his celebration. Very cool.

Not trying to cause trouble, but I have a question. Did Ward truly deserve the penalty shot?? I was at a charity function and missed the game.. Many around here feel he didn't deserve it.. Also did he get the shot off after being penalized?? If he did, and I am probably wrong on this but, I thought if you got away a shot on net, a penalty shot couldn't be awarded.. If I am wrong I apologize and will take myself out back for a solid punishment...

It used to be that if the player got off a shot then a penalty shot would not be awarded, however the refs have been instructed to call more penalty shots even if they get the shot off.

Here is a link that talks a little about the refs being instructed to call more penalty shots.

Yeah, just wait for a 4 out of 7 serie. The Bruins aren't invincible and Ryder will score at least 3 goals against your unproven Raycroft, then we will see who is the real Calder candidate!

It wasn't only because the refs were being told to call more Penalty Shots IMO. Yes, Ward did get a shot off, but it was a bad shot from him swooping his stich at it(if I remember correctly) with barely any chance of going in, that's another factor why I believe the refs called it. If he got a good wrist or whatever other shot away while he was standing then I think the outcome may have been different.

On TSN some ref(forgot his name) was on for a while, and duffy asked him if it was true that the refs where to call more penalty shots, and it was obvious he wasn't saying yes. But of course he wouldn't admit it if it were true anyways

P.S. Some info. that I wrote may be somewhat inacurate because I'm going off my memory of the Jason Ward Penalty Shot and the duffy interview
