Trade Proposal Stars/Canucks

I know everybody here wants a proven powerplay quarterback like Kaberle, but I think it is unlikely we pick up someone like him for a Schneider and picks, instead I am proposing the following:

Stars get: Schneider
Canucks get: Matt Niskanen

Both players are the same age and fill needs on each of their new teams, Schneider could spend a year backing up Turco and re-fining his game at the NHL level and Niskanen could be that go to puck moving defenseman, defensively he would likely be our #5-6 dman and would help on the powerplay, plus the added bonus is that he is a RH shot as well. I think he would fit in very well alongside Alex Edler

Mitchell-Salo
Edler-Niskanen
O'Brien-Bieksa

Pretty even trade of two young up and coming players who were both late 1st round picks

Schneider will not be going anywhere because they signed Raycroft.

no one even knows if Luongo is staying

I'm pretty sure this is common knowledge among Canucks fans. I'm assuming this trade is based on Luongo already being re-signed.

I am making the above trade proposal assuming that Luongo will have signed a long term deal.

I don't think Schneider by himself gets us Niskanen.

That goes without saying, that would just be silly and I for one am not a big fan of sillyness.

With them missing out of Gustavsson, there is a possibility that the Stars will be looking for a young goalie.

I think I would rather go after Fistric. Maybe not a puck moving defenseman but strong in his own end and developing some offensive upside.

Yes please from the Canucks. I don't see Dallas trading Niskanen though, he is their Edler. Vishnevskiy would be more reasonable.

Niskanen is extremely valuable to the Stars. He won't be traded, esp. since Turco has a few years left in him.

if I'm Dallas I wouldn't do this trade.

Niskanen was their leading point getter on defense... and with Zubov's future in uncertainty, I don't think they can afford to give up a guy who could well be their #1 dman as early as next year, if not the year after.

I don't think that Schneider has that type of value - especially to a team that isn't desperate for goaltending, as Turco is still signed for another year, while there are other goalie options still no the market (Harding and Rask for example).

Getting an established top 4 dman - and a young one at that - isn't going to happen for Schneider IMO. If I'm Dallas, I'd offer someone like Grossman instead... or a younger prospect like Fistric or Vishnevsky. Niskanen's value to that team has just gotten a lot higher with Zubov's uncertain future, and the lack of overall depth that team has on defense past that.

I highly doubt Dallas moves him for Schneider.

^^^

Agreed, Niskanen, as mentioned earlier, is their Edler and with Zubov's uncertainty is going nowhere.

Stars could use a young goaltender but they're almost in the same boat as us, with question marks on defense.

What's the latest on Zubov anyways?

Niskanen is miles better than Fistric.

But as stated, Niskanen is far too valuable to the Stars to trade for a elite goalie prospect who's good, but still unproven at the NHL level. Vishnevsky would be a very good alternative though. Or Franson out of Nashville, but they don't need Schneider, which is a shame.

I like the idea of Cody Franson as well.

They Don't need a backup for Rinne.

It'll most likely be for a forward.
Mason Raymond or Jannik Hansen for Cody Franson & Alex Sulzer.
DEAL?

Even less likely to get Vishnevskiy, he is our future Zubov.

Is Vishnevskiy really more valuable to Dallas than Niskanen? His stats are pretty underwhelming for a "future Zubov".

This year was an odd year for Stars prospects because they didn't have an AHL team. From what I understand there may have been some boredom/motivation issues in his time with the Rivermen. Around December I think there was some concern that he might bolt for the KHL so he was recalled but never saw any games. He played 3 games with the Stars at the end of last year and I was impressed, had 2 assists has a big powerful shot. The big knock on him was that he wasn't the most defensively sound but when he was called up he looked solid. In his 3 games up he was a huge upgrade from anything we had as far as offensive defenseman. Here is a thread about him just after his call up. Don't get me wrong Niskanen has offensive talent, but Vish is far and away better offensively.

canucks do this in a heart beat but Dallas i dont think so cause Niskanen is a great up and coming great young defenceman and Cory Schnider isn't NHL proven even thou he is arguably the best goalie out side the NHL

I hope Nieuwendyk is at least considering Schneider as an option for backing up Turco, and gives Gillis a call.

As mentioned earlier, Vancouver (hopefully) wouldn't get Niskanen in a straight-up deal, but if it's Fistric and a mid-round pick, I'd be fine with it.

Dallas just signed Woywitka, so maybe they're looking to move another piece off for help in net.

Dallas would never do this... But I wouldn't say no to this trade from a Canucks point of view.
