So is Luongo planning to play all 82 games?

At the end of the day, there's likely going to be players better than Raycroft who miss out on this big game of musical chairs.
His cheapness will likely allow MG to get an upgrade elsewhere. You're taking a small downgrade on a guy who will play 10 games for an upgrade on a guy who could play 82.

This is what I'm wondering. He's going to be awfully exhausted.

He looks sleepy. Good place for him though.

Honestly, Raycroft has been pencilled in as a No. 1/1A guy everywhere he's gone; Boston, Toronto and Colorado. This will be the first place he's gone where he is clearly the backup. Maybe the change of pace will be good for him, as will working with one of the best goaltenders in the league, and a good coaching staff. He's been on bottom feeding crappy teams, let him try a good one.

if you read the thread in the Coyotes forum on the LaBarbera signing, they're about as pleased with him as we are with Raycroft. and we all liked LaBarbera quite a bit. says something I guess...

We don't know if this is a cheap signing or not.

Yeah, I'm ok with the move if he comes in at or very close to league minimum (and said so before). If that's the case, it gives the team more flexibility and they can always bring up Schneider to backup Luongo in some games.

But I still think he's a bad goalie.

At least we're still stronger at the back up position than Calgary.

Schneider had a shot to take over when the injury occurred last year.

and how did that go ?

people need to relax ...a goalie needed to be brought in and he was.

Has Brent Johnson signed yet?

I would have preferred him at this salary range (800,000).

Though, he played the most games out of all the goaltenders available at his salary range. I guess it was out of necessity, as Budaj is arguably worse over a long stretch of games.

It's really hard to support a goaltender who has not achieved a save percentage above 0.900 since 2003.

I actually like this signing. I think without the pressure of being a number 1, and being behind Luongo, Raycroft could have a decent year. He's obviously here to try to get his career back on track and learn from one of the games best. Good signing for a backup.

This really reminds me of the signing of a certain loveable fatass last summer. The Canucks got mocked for taking someone they always made fun of because he was a crappy Leaf.

Raycroft has tons of skill and I think he'll be a way better backup than starter. He'll be fine around 750k.

One can only hope he's been humbled since then to have an attitude change - as I don't like this signing, two-way deal or not.

It has been exactly 144 days since Raycroft's last victory, a 3-0 shutout of these same Sabres at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo back on Nov. 9. The whitewash proved to be one of the few highpoints in this nightmarish season, one in which he somehow has still managed to take the high road amid all the backlash from fans and media alike.

"I'm proud of myself for acting professionally despite the fact I haven't been (in a great mood) on most days," Raycroft said yesterday, calmly dealing with the loaded questions being fired his way by the surrounding media.

"I'm not a charity case. I've played a lot of NHL games. I have as much pride, if not more, as anyone in this room."

This reminds you of the Sundin signing?

Botchford is saying on his Twitter that the signing is because they want a 3rd goalie in case Luongo goes down with an injury but that they want to get Schneider into NHL games to try to improve his trade value.

If that's the case, I'm on board with the move. It must mean that Raycroft was probably the cheapest option available.

Which makes perfect sense. The only goalies we had under contract were Luongo and Schneider. If Luongo goes down, then what?

I would think we're still in the market for another goalie...perhaps some unknown who we can plunk on the Moose roster as a backup or something. All depends when we're looking at trading Schneider.

Yeah still need another goalie, probably an AHL type like David Leneveau or Nolan Schaefer

I'm happy with this signing if it's under 800K.
