I don't think that Schneider getting NHL games necessarily means that Raycroft won't be on the roster.

What it allows them to do is have the cheapest possible option ride the pine when Luongo is playing and have Schneider called up to the NHL when they want him to get some game action. It gives them the best of both worlds - Raycroft will be the cheapest backup in the league and it means that Schneider doesn't have to waste away on the bench playing 10-15 games behind Luongo.

$500k deal I'm happy with.

$500,000 for Raycroft is ridiculous. I was expecting it to be way more than that.

Good signing.

Good signing. 500K so he can play 10 games and maybe call up Schneider for 10 games as well. Saves us some cap space to sign someone to fill another hole.

The only reason we gave Hedberg moderator privileges is so the rest of us could slack.

Wrong. Schneider would be a 984K backup. We save 484K by having Raycroft on the team instead of Schneider, which could be significant come the trade deadline.

I can't believe a thread about our backup goalie has 150+ posts already.

I mean does it even matter? Raycroft has an ass, so he's capable of warming the bench. It's fine.

Great pick-up for the Canucks - I've always been a Raycroft fan, I think he's an excellent goalie that for some reason or another gets picked on by HF.
Anyways, he will do very well in his role as back-up.

So it's at the league minimum - perfect. Sure helps one stomach the dollars thrown at SOB. It's funny how the team continues to build up in the UFA season in a fashion all the armchair capologists actually can live with.

He's also got a hand so he can open the bench doors. That's why Dan Blackburn wasn't signed. (too mean?)

The life of being a hardcore hockey fan....The worse part is I'm one of the most optimistic ones even during Death Stretches.

Even tho the rest of my family are huge bandwagoners and wanna trade anybody who is playing bad (at that moment)

He actually falls asleep on the bench. Ask any Toronto fan.

at 500K hard to complain.

Used the money saved on a backup to pay SOB extra for taking a short term.
