I'd probably fall asleep too watching that team on the ice ... it's the Fernandez factor from his Minny days... so boring that he was hooked on smelling salts to avoid being bored to death!

He takes up less cap space than Schneider, and he shouldn't see much action anyway. I like the signing actually, we gave up league minimum to get some insurance, and who knows, with pressure off he may improve his game... Well, that might be optimistic, but if he really stinks it up, we still have Schneider to call up, just at a higher cap hit.

It's a good signing. I don't really think he's worse than Sabourin or Sanford, probably better. The price is right and he knows his role, so no problem really.

In the 10 games he plays it will give the Canucks players extra incentive not to **** up...

or it will end up in the back of the net.

Should serve as a good wake up call from having Luongo covering the teams ass for 70 games.

Hmm.

The price is right, I guess.

Not really sure what to think of this.

I'd assumed that Schneider would either be traded or be the backup here ... there's nothing else he can learn in the AHL and needs to start facing NHL shooters. So I suspect this means he'll be traded.

Hopefully Raycroft performs better in a better organization with a better team in front of him, and being around Luongo and Clark makes him a better goaltender. He definitely had the ability at one point.

Great cap hit, wasn't too impressed with the signing to begin with, but now that I know the cap hit I'm very impressed.

We don't have to get used to it. He'll probably start 5 games for us.

Decent contract, but I still think the best thing for the club both short and long term is to have Schneider as backup, getting NHL games in.

What if giving Schneider time EXPOSED him instead of showcased him?

If Raycroft really is insurance if Schneider does not pan out, then that cap hit makes sense.

Someone on 1040 made a great point that Schneider should be well-briefed about the team's plans for him.

why the **** did botchford protect his tweets

Honestly I think the window for getting a good return on Schneider is starting to close. The last thing I want is for the team to keep him around too long, giving him sporadic starts and eventually dealing him for nothing ala Miikka Kiprusoff.

I agree with that completely.

He's already 23 and was drafted 5 years ago. Waiting another year and giving him 10-15 starts isn't going to inflate his value much as he'll get a year older at the same time, while if he struggles his value will go into the toilet and he'll be worth next-to-nothing at this time next year.

The only way his value goes up significantly between now and next summer is if Luongo gets hurt and he excels in 40-50 starts for the club and shows that he's a clearcut NHL #1, no questions asked. And that scenario isn't overly likely.

If we want to get something out of the asset, now is the time to be moving him.

So how long before people around here start co-opting the moniker "Raycrap" like they came up with it? As I recall, "LOLbarbera" took roughly 5 minutes, so we're off to a better start, at least.

That was mostly the Kings fans who were crying over losing their whipping boy.
