Pavol Demitra

Vancouver has about 3 million left in cap space and is still lacking a powerplay defenceman, so Pavol Demitra may be available. Here's a consistent 60+ point guy signed to a reasonable 4 million for one more year. What do you think his value would be, and which teams would be interested?

Depends on how much Glen Sather is willing to pay.

I wouldn't get rid of Demitra because then you just create another hole on the second line, even if you get back a decent top-4 defenceman.

Demitra for Del Zotto. NYR get's someone to play with Gaborik and Vancouver get's a puck moving prospect.

Everyone's happy.

Vancouver could just sign Marc Andre Bergeron, for I am guessing 1.75M.
He is a powerplay Q-back

I think Vancouver needs to keep Demitra they need more scoring power not less (imo)

STOP THE M-A BERGERON NONSENSE.

He's terrible defensively. Just because he skates well in NHL09 and can shoot, doesn't mean anything.

He`d garner very little in return. Demitra has been around the league for a while now and never seems to stay anywhere very long. He`s a good plug to fill the lineup but the guy makes me pull my hair out sometimes. Canucks might be better off hanging onto him and pray he doesn`t break his hip or leg.

Pavol's trade value is very low right now.

He's still recovering from his injury in the Playoffs. Pretty sure he was given a 4 month time frame for recovery.

Hopefully Sundin signs and takes his spot.

I am not going by a video game
The fact that he has cannon of a shot.
The fact that last season 18 of his 32 points were powerplay points 7 G 11 A
The fact that in 339 career games he has 160 points and of those 85 are powerplay points seems to make him a pretty solid Powerplay Q-back

No where in my post did I say you would confuse him with ROD LANGWAY
Have him play as the 6th D-man limit him to 15 minutes a game and he get 40 points from the blueline. I say that would be a good signing since Vancouver D is very solid

But thanks for thee video, do you have anything from this year in Minnesota

Gillis seems committed to Pavel, therefore a trade seems unlikely. I see him staying and Grabner being his replacement down the line.

4 million for a 50 point player is doable.....though he angers me greatly with his soft play.

You could be right, but a $4 million cap hit would be tough to swallow if Demitra`s injuries keep him out of the lineup. I think that kind of gamble would probably make most teams a bit cautious.

I doubt the Canucks re-sign him at the end of the season, so if Gillis wants something for him, he will probably do it at the trading deadline as a rental player. Hopefully Demitra will have had a good season and his value will be a bit higher. As of now, with Demitra`s injuries, I`m not sure if there are teams inquiring about him. He`ll have to get moved in a package deal or something.

unless this is a trade deadline day deal and we are long outta the top 8.
i could see us getting Antro type of deal for his services.

Hands up if you really think Gillis would actually consider trading his former client whom he just signed last summer and has just one year left on his contract.

If you have your hand up, you're nucking futs.

Except Ranger fans. We tried that Demitra experiment here in Minnesota, and it was a failure. All those two want to do is pass the puck back and forth to each other - neither wants to shoot if he can squeeze one more pretty pass through the traffic to the other one, until they're both out of position to shoot. I swear to god, if the Zamboni driver had ever screwed up and left the door open at the end of the rink, those two would have skated all the way to Duluth, just passing the damned puck back and forth. They couldn't get it through their heads that at some point in the process, somebody needs to actually shoot the puck over in the general direction of the goalie.

Apparently his shoulder was more mangled than originally thought... so wouldn't doubt if he is still on
IR when the season starts in October, believe he had it operated on

also... doesn't he have a NMC... and you know Gillis policy on that, he will honor it

He doesn't but it's a moot point because there's nobody better that we're going to get for him, and moving him just opens up (another) hole on the second line.

Demitra has no value other than a trade deadline acquisition.

His contract is out of control relative, the one's being signed right now. That doesn't include the effect of his injuries.

The only way he gets traded right now is part of a salary dump. You might get a roster player back but they wouldn't be very good.

In my opinion the only way Demitra gets moved is if Sundin decides to return and earns an honest salary. Gillis said if Sundin wants back he's in, but really the only possible way to fit him under the cap is to move Demitra's $4M and give it to Mats. Vancouver has a healthy supply of talented young wingers so its not a bad swap.

As for trade value, who knows what we could get, but I'd be happy for a 2nd and a 3rd simply because we don't have those this year because of the Bernier trade last summer (I think).
