Is this MVR's last year of this contract?
If so they may find interest for him. Finger is another story though, not worth what he makes and has multiple years remaining. Hard to justify plunking him in the minors because he is an NHL quality defenseman but difficult to justify his thickish slice of the cap as well.

Well it is an interesting move for sure . Burke has himself mentioned that the Leafs are in the process of rebuilding , but this signing is just the piece of the puzzle .....

Great signing. $3.3 million a year for Beauchemin is significantly less than what people thought he was going to get.

Hopefully the Leafs keep Kaberle and move someone else like Van Ryn, Finger etc. Having toughness on defence is great but you still need to move the puck.

Burke wasn't kidding that the Leafs were going to be tougher this year, trying to score on the Leafs won't be fun this year.

I honestly think we still need Kaberle. We need an elite puck mover more than ever now. Who knows? I think we need Kaberle and White both in this lineup. Ideally I'd like to see something like:

Kaberle-Komisarek
Beauchemin-Schenn
Exelby-White
Stralman/Oreskovic

Of course that depends on moving MVR/Finger, etc. I actually appreciate what Finger brings but I'm not sure if he fits in anymore if Exelby is in fact supposed to be a starting defender for the Leafs (which I assume he is).

Maybe the plan is to dress 7D and 11F most games. Some teams do it pretty regularly.

So Beauchemin is clearly the difference maker here , from a Leaf team that was 2 points out of the top 5 pickings last year , and now to a playoff team ? Give me a break . The additions of Komisarek , Exelby , Beauchemin are great on paper , but our transitional game is pretty much shot if Tomas is traded/injured like he was last season/plays like crap again in the upcoming season . Komisarek struggled last season , Exelby is a nice #5 defenseman , and Beachemin should be a good mentor for Schenn but no way does he make this team a playoff team

Spelled the name wrong in title. Dang.

Once Kaberle goes the Leafs are not going to be very mobile on the back end!

Signing Komisarek/ Beauchemin definitely hurts our lottery chances next for sure, which is what I wanted (a lottery pick).

But seeing these guys take much less than market value to play here makes me think Burkie's a man with a plan and these guys believe in that plan.

The question is why Beauchemin sign in Toronto knowing the defensive log-jam we have, unless Burke told him he plans to move some.

Kaberle - Komisarek
Schenn - Beauchemin
Stralman - Exelby
Frogren

Finger bought out/waived. MVR traded/waived. White moved to forward.
Then we got Kaberle, Stralman and Beauchemin that can move the puck. Schenn, Komi and Exelby as the punishers. Frogren played really well near the end of the season last year; he was blocking shots form left right and center and was actually fighting.

Burke is solving the defensive issues with a revolutionary strategy.

Play 3 defensemen and 2 forwards at all time.

It is and they probably would. I wouldn't mind having MVR on the Jackets.

Because he is better than the players in that logjam and doesn't need to worry.
