I would. If that offer was on the table. At league minimum he would definitely be a great bang for our buck. He wouldn't get tired out because he would be playing very few minutes per game (4th line duty) and could essentially be a special teams man playing PK and PP minutes.

I would definetly sign him for a minimum 3rd line job and ONLY PP ,why have shanhan out there on the PK? not that he's bad or anything.

I don't know if theres much of a chance of this happening but it would definitely be better than anyone else they could find to play the 4th line plus it would add a good PP guy, leadership and a hell of a lot of experience.

If he gets a spot, then some young kid doesn't. No thanks. He doesn't have the legs to keep up with anyone anymore. He had 14 points in 34 games last year.

Behind the bench maybe, but his days on the bench are over, at least with the Rangers.

Shanny wants to play next season. I saw him at the Apple Store on 5th avenue recently. He is great shape but he can't keep up anymore. Apparently Shanny is in there all of the time. Bob McKenzie(I think it was Bob)said Shanahan is going to expand his list of teams this time around. He is willing to move his family to play in St.Louis rather than pigeonhole himself to the Rangers and Devils. Even the Flyers would require moving his family to south Jersey because traveling from NYC to Vorhees everyday is too much.

It would be better if you'd ask if I'd sign Jagr again?--Yes.

Shanny can't keep up. We'd be better off finding some prospect(s) and give them the shot.

why bother taking away a spot from a kid for someone who likely won't make a big difference on our powerplay

unless you honestly feel like we're putting together a cup run, its more important to get our youth some ice time than scoring an extra 4-5 goals on the powerplay

he did zip ZERO for the devils in the stretch last season. He can't keep up for long...especially in the playoffs.

If Renny was still here... I'd say yes.
But under Torts... Not a chance. Different direction.

god no. he did squat for the debs.

he needs to retire already. love the guy but his day has come and gone.

if zherdev wants too much money, we need to replace him with someone who can log minutes on the top 2 lines. shanny, at this point, is certainly not the answer.

No... He is nearly the worst possible player for Torts' system. Have to pressure and constantly move, something Shanny doesn't do anymore.

I agree although he would be great for the intangible leadership role

Nope. Loved Shanny as a Ranger but even then he was slowing down. Now it's two years later. Father time isn't kind. I'm sure he still has the hands...but the wheels are falling off.

I don't believe that is needed as long as we have Drury. Had Drury been the one to go, and not Gomez, maybe Shanny makes some sense then.

And if Higgins works out, he's future captain material too. Watching his interview, he is very much like Drury actually. I know some of you don't like Drury's ways as captain, but he's good imo. Very Jeter like in how he deals with things.

Amazing how old man Anderchyuk managed to captain a team playing in the infamous "Torts' system"

I don`t think he fits into the Rangers system this year. He does bring leadership and still has one of the best wrist shots in the league, but he's better suited to a different team and playing style that the one Torts has going.

you're right...he'll do a LOT better surrounded by pure hockey brialliance in the form of Brashear and Boyle

those two are the pinnacle of raw skill who just need a verteran goal scorer pressence like Shanny to show them the light

Voted "NO" but just too old for this team.

For a true contender, he might be valuable.

That would make sense if everyone aged the same way.
