Shanny is the man. Easily one of my favorite players ever, but yeah his better days are behind him.

He should probably retire or sign with a team that has a lot of depth to use him sparingly.

If the Rangers didn't feel comfortable with their 4th line as the season progressed and he was still available, maybe Sather takes a look, who knows.

Doesn't that tell you something? He wasn't good enough for a top 6 role. You think he'll do better on our 3rd line at the age of 40?

Shanny was arguably our best player in the playoffs last year. Maybe that is a stretch, but he was definitely our more responsible. He seemed to always make the right play.

That said, a full season is tough... we're debating that in Jersey. He needs to get every third game off or something to that effect. Not sure if I want him on Jersey again or not. I would take him for a playoff run, though

Hell no. Really people? Sometimes you have to just move on from fan favorites. He wants to sit on the bench and coach, fine.

No. Like others have said. I would much rather give the ice time to a kid. I think someone like PAP deserves a chance.

I mean if anyone has paid their dues in the AHL the past 3 years it's been him. 79pts in 68gp 3 yrs ago. Then he came to the Pack and put up 81pts in 75gp. Last season, the only player on the Pack who's stats were comparable to Anisimov's were PAP's. He had 78pts in 74gp. Those are some good numbers playing professional hockey.

I know he was picked late. But maybe he's a late bloomer. Or, maybe he's another Jason Krog. Only one way to find out.

No. Although I liked Shanny when he was here and would not have minded bring him back for another season last year, I wouldn’t do it now. He no longer has the legs or gas for Torts’ run & gun game plan.

And, 4th line minutes should be given to the youngsters.

Right idea, wrong position. We need Chelios or perhaps Zubov to come in as a bargain 7th D and player/coach to mentor all the young D prospects.

I voted yeah because at min salary you can do a lot worse but I don't think it will happen.

Brash-Betts-Shanny 4th line

Chelios? The only way I want that guy near my hockey team is if he's ready to put his coaching hat on, and even then i'm gonna wanna see what he can do in the AHL. Please no chelios that would be horrible.

Even if he's old, I'd sign him to a deal that'd give him 3rd line ice time with Higgans, and I'd definitley put him on the power play. We can use his shot.

Exactly. 7th Dman who contributes mostly in practice, but is available to lace 'em up and play (hopefully at something close to his old level) only every 5-10 games or so.

No. Dear God no. Can't we worry about the players we still need to sign first?

Shanny is a class act and I'm glad we got to have him for 2 seasons, but it's time to go in another direction.

I wouldn't be opposed to it if it happened, but I don't think I hope for it to happen either; I do see the positives.

That said, how about bringing Jagr back. Buy out that KHL contract.

I'd take him at the minimum salary on the 4th line and 2nd PP unit. Just dont know how brashear and shanny would get along in the locker room....but then again shanny is a professional.

I'm really shocked that 1/3 of the people here think this team needs MORE 3rd/4th liners.

I would rather our youngsters to play top line minutes in Hartford then 4-8minutes a game on the 4th line.

Plus,
-He would still be effective at the PP
-Wouldn't get worn out as the season went on because of minimal ice time
-Like said, a Mentor to our younger players

I don't see why so many people don't/wouldn't do this.

I don't think Shanahan would take the league minimum to come back to the Rangers.

i would take Shanahan over Brashear. but Shanahans not going to and fight 15-20 times a year. so no, not as a play every game we are counting on you player.
me and my dad were talking about this in jags last year: jags was pacing himself all year to more or less kick ass in the playoffs. he did. it was painful to watch him "take it easy" during the season though.
what would be wrong with signing a jags or Shanahan(old but quality) for 10-20 or maybe all home games during the season, so they have the gas for the playoffs? they sign for less but don't have to play as much. also lets the youth get some valuable time on ice and when you need the experience in the playoffs you get it.
say the rangers have the team they have now + Shanahan or the like. Shanahan only plays when say they hit a slump, get him in for a game or two then hes back hanging out with glen. playoffs come, hes in. put him on the third or fourth line, mostly he gets PP and 6Th man or maybe a tough d zone face off where his experience will help in making the right play.
???
contract would be low like 875k to 1.mil. but with a crazy playoff bonus.
