Hey Yotes' fans... Canuck fan here looking for a bit of insight.
Vancouver signed Joel Perrault right out of the gate on July 1st, and the signing kind of stayed a bit under the radar as the Canucks inked some bigger name guys that day as well which stole Perrault's 'thunder'.
That being said, there was a discussion going on in the Canuck forum about what Perrault's role will be. A lot of people think he'll be AHL material and was brought in purely for some depth.
I happen to think that he was brought in to be a regular on the Canucks, as he was signed to a one-way deal, and at first glace anyway - he fits a need the Canucks have on their 4th line.
My question to you guys is: What can we expect from Perrault, and what are his strengths/weaknesses?
Any feedback is much appreciated!
Thanks fellas'...cheers!
I think if that what his role will be, he will be good. He has good hands and can win faceoffs. He was just never put in a position to excel here. If I remember right, he got pushed around alot though.

I don't know.. I remember him standing up to Pronger everytime we played the DUcks.. Granted if they had thrown down Pronger woul dhave killed him, But JP never backed down.
It's hard to tell. He's performed very well in the AHL. Hi first NHL stint was a disaster, the guy was completely invisible. Then he showed up for a couple games last season, brought a high energy level, played aggressive hockey without taking stupid penalties, showed offensive skills and... got nailed in the head. Concussion. Not a major one, but enough to stop his stint with the big club.
After seeing the best and worst of Perrault, I still have no idea if the guy's NHL material. I'd say the likelihood of his making the Canucks roster as something more than an injured player replacement is about 10%.

Perrault is unlucky. I do feel like he's capable of being a decent fourth liner.
One year deal for Stempniak, please. It's the only way it makes sense for either side. Same story for each of Upshall's last two deals.
I don't want THAT kind of stability. The D-Backs made the mistake of locking up a bunch of mediocre, inconsistent, streaky players. Let's not do the same.
He will get a real shot. The Coyotes are going to have some serious competition this year at camp. Maybe they put him with Whitney. A setup guy and a finisher. They both play left wing though.

I'd put Doan and MacLean on Turris line. Turris and MacLean know each other's tendencies. Doan will be the veteran presence on the line and demand defensive accountability.
Seeing as how todays Sunday... they're getting away with the benefit of the doubt that an official announcement would come Monday. Still, I wouldn't imagine DM caving in on a 2 year deal unless it's an absolute bargain at less than 1.5 a year.
Consider the source, but was re-tweeted by Strader:

RT @ "NHL Sources Say" If what I heard earlier is true, Stempniak/Phx will be announced tomorrow. It's a multi year deal believed to be 2 years.

Bingo. Barring any surprises at camp (and there will be), this is the lineup I foresee. The nice thing is we have depth if we run into injuries, while a prolonged slump could see an established guy getting sat down for a rookie. Competition is good!
