This Week's Prospect Camp

http://www.freep.com/article/2009070...+of+NHL+rigors

http://www.detnews.com/article/20090...-summer-school

Quote:
This year's camp has a roster of 32 players, including 18 draft picks or players in the system. There also are 14 invitees.

Obviously there aren't NHL names on the roster, but there are some familiar names.

Six of the Wings' seven selections from last month's NHL draft will attend including: Landon Ferraro (second round), Tomas Tatar (second), Andrej Nestrasil (third), Gleason Fournier (third), Nick Jensen (fifth) and Mitchell Callahan (sixth).

Two former first-round picks, goalie Thomas McCollum (2008) and defenseman Brendan Smith (2007) also will be on hand.
Im very curious to know who the invitees are.. If anyone knows, please share!

Wings signed Travis Ehrhardt.
The link is to a RWC thread, but it's the publisher of RWC central who started it.

Here's an article I wrote on Tatar:

http://redwings.nhl.com/team/app?art...e&service=page

Nice guy. Tried to get more quotes but his English isn't so great. Ferraro seemed like a good guy too.

Didn't see this posted yet... great write-up about the first day of the camp and his observations of the players. Sounds good!

tatar sounds funny. i like that he tries to speak english and is not using a translator. that's good attitude.

and it's pretty clear what the most important skill is that the scouting staff is looking for. it's simply skating.

I suspect you might see Axelsson at the Prospect's Camp in TC. That's usually where the young pro's show up if they do.

Here's my second article from prospect camp on Brian Lashoff, if anyone's interested: http://redwings.nhl.com/team/app/?se...ticleid=436534

I was supposed to interview Fournier today but he spoke even less English than Tatar did yesterday.

Brendan Smith has been the best player in camp so far, IMO.

Thanks mate. I am really, really excited about Lashoff. He did unbelievably well in Grand Rapids, more success than he had during the OHL even.

Has Stephen Johnston stood out at all? Haven't heard anything about him...

I love what I've been reading about Callahan.

I hope he turns out to be like Carcillo but with more brains.

Why don't the Wings do something like this?
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/spo...6?OpenDocument
It seems like that would be huge for a prospects development, not only training with other prospects for a few months but to also be around NHL trainers, coaches, and players to help them out.

Why would we want to copy the Blues I think we're fine as we are, the Stanley Cup rings speak for themselves.
