Good pick up. Still young, will be solid for the Moose....possible injury call up. I remember weatching this guy at the Coliseum he was a pretty dominant WHL defenceman.

Decent signing, although I'm a bit wary that Buffalo let go of a former second rounder so easily, even with his injury. Still, doesn't hurt much other than take away one of those 50 contracts, but at the very least, it'll be a good depth signing.

can't believe how many awful funk puns have made it into this thread already. i posted this signing in the transaction thread a few days ago. guess i was right after all.

he had an injury plauged season this last year and barely played. he's still young and has the size/skating to be a decent defenseman. and if not, who cares? we lose nothing. did we not claim wellwood off waivers last year?

If my math is any good, we now have 35 players under contract:

G: Luongo, Schneider, Raycroft

D: Salo, Bieksa, Mitchell, Edler, O'Brien, Rome, Baumgartner, Nycholat, Funk, Rahimi, Ellington, Oberg

C: H Sedin, Kesler, Hodgson, Johnson, Rypien, Bolduc, Bliznak, Walsky

W: D Sedin, Demitra, Burrows, Samuelsson, Bernier, Raymond, Hordichuck, Grabner, Glass, LaBrie, Pope, Gendur

That does not include RFA's Wellwood, McIver and Hansen who will (presumably) sign with the Canucks this summer.

Let me know if anyone notices I've omitted someone.

EDIT: forgot Tanner Glass

Ha, he went to the same high school as me. I remember hearing when he got drafted by the Sabres, he was stoked.

Awards:
I hope he turns it around playing for the Canucks. He never got untracked with either Rochester or Portland -- the concussions (IIRC, he has had more than just the two last year) certainly didn't help. If playing for the hometown team helps him focus on bringing all of his tools night to night, he might reach his potential.

And for those wondering about the NHL games -- he was an injury recall for players who were already on recall who had been injured. It was a desperation move and they kept him to about 5 minutes a night in light situations.

Ok, I'll stop now. But let me finish by saying if he wears #69 he will officially be my favourite player.

You do know Samuel Johnson once said that a pun is the lowest form of humour, right?

Defense looks good though I think it'll be something like this.

Baumgartner McIver
Oberg Ellington
Ehrhardt Funk
Rahimi

Sanford
backup
As already been stated Ehrhadt is gone and Travis Ramsey is on a Moose contract. I would imagine that Rahimi and Ramsey will battle for the 7/8 spot, the loser may end up in Victoria.

All is not lost on the forwards ranks with the loss of Jaffray and Krog as the team is deep with wingers but are weak in offensive centres.

Wing Depth

LW
Michael Grabner
Sergei Shirokov (once offical)
Tanner Glass
Pierre-Cedric Labrie

RW
Matt Pope
Eric Walsky
Guillaume Desbiens
Mike Keane

It is centre depth that is of concern. Of the returning centres Alexandre Bolduc had the most points last season with 33, it may be a reach but he may have to do as second line centre. Mario Bliznak has shown too much offense yet, thats not to overshadow the fact that he is becoming a good checking centre. The only other centre I know about is Dusty Collins who I thik is on a Moose contract, hes somewhat of a role player that looks to be a good 13th forward for the Moose. By my count, thats a third and forth line centre. As somebody has mentioned Wacey Rabbit didn't recieve his QO, he would fit with the theme of this offseasons additions. He may be small but he sure is fast and has a little offensive upside, better option that what currently there for the second line. Played a season for the Giants and is from South Alberta, playing for the Moose wouldn't be out of the question. The Moose would still need to come up with a top line centre...
