Staples Center video to get a HD overhaul

Panasonic and AEG signed a huge agreement that includes the updating of video screens, LED displays, etc. in Staples Center (and AEG's 99 other arena venues). No specific time frame given, other than stating that the work will begin in 2009. I would assume (hope) at least some of it will be ready for the fall sports season. All HD displays, and I assume that also means a new scoreboard video screen/display eventually as well.

Panasonic is also now the new official partner of the LA Kings - I guess we know who will be helping pay for the extra costs of HD broadcasts of Kings games this fall.

Here's more info on Staples Center upgrades specifically (about 1:30 in to the video)

I knew there was a reason to get that 52" HD TV beyond just watching the playoffs last year (and beyond Jr playing XBOX live as well.) I cant wait for Road broadcasts, because I re-upped for the full-season today.

This is fantastic news. I went to a game in Washington last season and their HD screens were amazing. I'm in no way a TV/technology snob but every time I saw the Staples Center screens after that, I was underwhelmed. Other than lowering prices, this is the best stadium improvement AEG could have made.

It is very lackluster, considering we are suppose to be cutting edge... we are LA right?

I hope they upgrade the sound as well. From the seats behind the goal in the lower bowl, it is impossible to understand any of the audio when they play a video on the scoreboard.
