Is he really a top 4 d man?

Good job Murray!

The exact type of d-man the Ducks needed. 1.5 for 1 year is great value for this guy.

This well help the Ducks team toughness a lot and give them a solid 2nd pairing guy.

I always thought of Boynton as a solid 2nd pairing guy, but people on the main board seem to think he is simply a #6...when did that change cuz I thought he was always solid in Phoenix.

I think Boynton will be paired with Scotty Niedermayer and he will look good. Hell, I would look good paired with Scotty. I wonder if Boynton is ready to play that many minutes though. This may be the first time in Ducks history but we have three right handed shot defensemen.

Scotty Boynton
Whitney Wiz
Sbisa Brookbank

He's basically a bigger version of montador, turnover prone and not too bright, but he is tough and plays effective defense on occasion. If he's getting 20 min a night we're in trouble.

Its so strange, before we signed I kept hearing how he'd be the perfect guy for the team.

Now all I'm hearing is the guy is crap. No offense, bad penalties, on occasion plays some defense.

I'm now wondering if we were better off giving the ice time to a youngster.

It's HFBoards. The place where a bad season erases a quality career. The place where rebounding is impossible and all teams and coaches are equal in terms of player performance.

Don't forget if you are over 25 and haven't scored at least 50 points you are either:

A) Washed Up
or
B) A total bust

We heard the same things about O'Donnell upon his trade here, another former first rounder who once had bigger aspirations for himself. A slow, washed up, no-offense blockhead who bombed out of bad teams.

The Ducks game plan for this type of player is uncomplicated and easy to do, if they accept it. I imagine it's also pretty rewarding, especially when it's appreciated by the coaching staff. Boynton has an opportunity to fit in perfectly, he's not a kid anymore, he's signed to a pretty low-level deal, and he's finally on a team with a chance to make some noise. Unless he's retarded, he'll know what's in front of him here, and he won't screw it up asking for ice time above guys who make 3 times what he does.

Boynton was selected two picks ahead of Steve McCarthy (Bob's 23rd Pick in 99).
Maxime Ouellet has got to be next for the tri-fecta -- giving us the 1999 21,22,23rd picks

Boynton should be good enough for the price. I doubt Wiz will be around too long this season. Looks like we have some cash to spend at the trade deadline if we are playoff bound.

Let's Go Ducks - work hard this season.

Yes not the best but will be adequate for a contending team as a #4

Moen did not "suck" his line was a mess last year with "god" either hurt or playing like crap and special Neids being as useless as ever.
He's won here, he's young with even more upside, great leader, has grit, has size, can skate, likes it here. if he can be signed for 1.5 mill or less no reason no to

Do you think this signing is for the bottom pairing and we're still looking for the top 4 guy?

I still think Murray is on the phone a lot working on something in the way of a trade for a top flight d man and this signing is a "just in case" signing kind of like the Schnieder one.

Ignore the clowns on the main board, I saw Boynton play quite a bit last year and he's a good number 4/5 guy who's a huge upgrade over Brookbank/Festerling/Mikkelson. He's not exactly going to light the world on fire offensively but he's tough, physical and solid in his own zone. He's not the quickest skater but neither were O'Donnell, Beauchemin and Pronger either so I don't think it will matter.

Anyone expecting Murray to make another significant move is probably going to be disappointed. It's well known that the Ducks will not be spending to the cap, and assuming Wiz gets anywhere from 2-3 mil, the Ducks will only have roughly 4 million in cap space.

The only possible way the Ducks add another major piece is if they trade one of the goalies, which is looking very unlikely at this point.

I think the lineup is virtually set.

I don't get why you don't think Wiz will be around very long, he's not going to get a huge payday, he doesn't have the stats for that. I'm assuming you mean relationships are going to sour from the arbitration, which is possible, but I think he'll at least be here for the rest of this year.

I doubt there will be any more D-men moves till Murray see's how the pairings mesh but he's comfortable picking up Boynton to be a #4 most likely playing with Whitney.

I guess I've been giving Boynton too much credit as well. Even if he's not a great top 4 guy, I like this signing. I would have rather had Seidenberg, but he was to expensive. This is a good signing by Murray though. Solid guy that can at least take the load off Brookbank or Sbisa from time to time. Great signing by Murray.

even if he sucks, he at least has this going for him...

"In 2006, he was suspended one game by the NHL for making a "throat-slash" gesture toward Mike Ribeiro, then of the Canadiens."

hopefully he gets a chance to slash ribeiro's throat for real this season.

Jay McKee signed for 800k to the Pens, would that have been better than Boynton?
