I don't think Jordan Southorn is much a prospect anymore for the Sabres. I think in his draft year he looked to be a promising stay at home defensemen. He was definitely going to be a project, but the potential was there. Last season he started to slip and hasn't regained any momentum this season so far. I've heard rumors of being unmotivated, which is too bad because he has the potential to eventually play in the NHL. PEI could really benefit from him being stellar because they are right between being a top team and an average one.

That was really an isolated incident. Former teammate Tim Kennedy was asked about him. I can't recall where I saw it, but Kennedy said Tropp had a better shot and played a more physical than him.

At their first prospect camp, I like Southorn more than Crawford. At the next, they appeared even with maybe an edge to Crawford. But with another team-bases suspension and how well Crawford's game has come together, it wouldn't surprise if Southorn has played his way out of any contract offer.

I finally made it through all of the Canada-Latvia game and while the competition level was not the greatest, Luke Adam looked good in the victory. 2-1-3, +3, and 6 shots on goal is a handy way to open the tournie.

Up next for the Nats -- the Swiss. NHLNetwork has the games for those who want to catch junior hockey's permiere international tournament.

Coach (Comley) will change up lines so we play with a lot of different players during the season.
As a side note: nice to see Canisius' College's Cory Conacher still at the top of the scoring table tied with Tropp.

Quote:
Michigan State's Corey Tropp is tied for first among the nation's leading scorers:

1. Corey Tropp, Michigan State: 16 goals, 11 assists, 27 points

1. Cory Conacher, Canisius: 13-14--27
Wonder if he will get a UFA sniff from the Sabres. He is a small (listed at 5'8" 175lbs) 20yr old junior (turned 20 on the 14th).

Interesting. What's the deal with Conacher? Style? Anybody seen him play?

If I recall correctly, his linemate (Scarsella) was at prospect camp two summers ago.

Edit - verified. Scarsella was at the PC two summers ago.

I have seen him play a few times and am very impressed. Quick release, shoots alot this year. Point on PP. He is also a volunteer coach for my sons hockey program.

I know Canisius is going to be playing Guelph in some sort of invitational soon. Should be a good match up.

We will also scrimmage our youth hockey players 11& 12 year olds against Canisius this year. Its a lot of fun. Last year, the college team was told they were going to be playing a scrimmage game, but not that it was agoing to be a bunch of pre-zit kids. Pretty funny.

As far as I know Southorn is still on Buffalo's radar as they have been at the games looking at him. He also has been playing some very good hockey for the Rocket this season where he is playing well defensively and has been looking after his own end more, which was asked of him by Buffalo. As a result of that it may look like he isn't doing much out there but it is more of a case where "doing less is more".

Brayden McNabb named WHL player of the week. Just as excited for this kid as I am Kassian and Adam.

The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles acquired 20-year-old forward Maxime Legault from the Shawinigan Cataractes on Wednesday in exchange for defenceman Michael Ward and winger Maximilien Le Sieur

Legault and Adam on the same team.

also Lagace is rumored to be on the move.

stole everything from Baker's site.

I've seen Adam play a few games now for Canada. I'm pretty impressed with his play so far. He's the biggest bodied forward on the team and uses his size to protect the puck. He's not as physical without the puck, but does a good job of getting into a position to shoot and pounce on rebounds. Above all else, he's is contributing so far when the likes of TSN projected him as the 13th forward.

I think Southorn is definitely working his way to the "JS Allard" of last year in terms of signings. He was pretty highly regarded in his draft year (3rd roundish) but I guess things just aren't working out. Hopefully, he can rebound and at least have a good remaining junior career.

Kreider with three more for the US Jr's the other night. Seeing him at that level... I still want him on the Sabres.

Adam has been playing his usual game there -- fills the lane more than a lot of centers, but does it in both directions. I can't wait for tonights Cnd-USA game (NHL Network for those who have it, 171 on expanded TW Cable).

"OK Kris, so Kreider can skate it and shoot it, but can he score?"....

It's going to be a good one tonight. Canada definitely stacked, but USA can make it a game with strong physical vibe and great goaltending.
