Zipay: Rangers have trade feelers out

Feel free mods to move this somewhere else:

Quote:
Word is that several teams have kicked the tires on UFA Alex Tanguay (and checked his repaired shoulder), but nothing imminent. We hear Rangers also have paddles in the trade waters out West, no specifics, although people in the info stream suggest San Jose, L.A., Edmonton and Chicago.

let the proposals flow.....

San Jose I can believe. They need a shake up, but I doubt we have much to offer them unless it's the Drury for Marleau deal that Puck Daddy suggested a few months back. That said, I'm not really at all interested in Marleau. He's another overpaid, complimentary player.

LA makes no sense. They need scoring up front and have an abundance of defensive prospects.. sounds familiar, yeah?

Chicago is probably trying to shed some salary, but I don't see how we make a deal without sending salary back. I could see Sather doing something stupid like Rozsival for Campbell+.

Edmonton? Really? There's like one or two guys on that entire team I'd be interested in, Hemsky and Gagner, and I doubt they're available.

if la is in the mix then i would expect it would be frolov. forget dustin brown. hes untouchable.

frolov for zherdev would make sense. similar salaries. change of scenery would help both the enigmatic russians

i like frolov alot as ive said before..... i would do that deal in a hearbeat.

Kind of "meh" on Marleau, but maybe Torts would get the best out of him. Doubt they would want Rozy as they already have Blake, Boyle, Ehrhoff, Vlasic, Murray, and Lukowich.

In fact, all of the aforementioned teams (LA, Edmonton, San Jose, Chicago) are pretty stacked on D, with teams suchs as Edmonton & Chicago having some pretty expensive D contracts. Not so sure we make great trade partners with any of them, if we are attempting to unload a defenseman...

I like Frolov too in general, but I don't see them going for Zherdev in exchange without some decent pot sweetening by the Rangers

What does SJ need? Marleau is probably the best rumored asset we could acquire that fits our needs. He's a little overpaid but he makes less than Drury, is a better player than Drury, and his deal ends next season. Next season we wouldn't have to shed salary. Just let Marleau walk and it already frees up enough money to re-sign Staal and Girardi.

Go get him, Slats!

As for Edmonton, someone mentioned in another thread that they are interested in Zherdev. Not sure how the sign-and-trade thing works, though.

I would be THRILLED if they could get Marleau for something like Rozy, Zherdev and a 2nd

Why?

Zherdev's production is equal to Marleau at a higher cost, and you'd lose Rozsival and a 2nd for nothing.

Marleau? Damn some of you guys have some crazy thoughts.

I hope to god it isn't Marleau they're thinking about trading for.

i suspect zherdev is more in play then rozy.

i dont think rozy generates quite the buzz. in fact, im not so sure theres are alot of teams who see rozy as more than a borderline 2nd or a solid 3rd pair guy.

if its a centerman whom we have our sites set on, it may mean dubinski is in play as well. remember, we were willing to move him in the heater offer. if its a center coming back, it may be a deal like this

zherdev/dubinski/pick for marleau

rozy/dubinski/sangs for marleau

OffDa... your first idea is invalid because it would put us in an awful cap situation. I think Marleau makes upward of 6 mil a year.

As far as Dubinsky is concerned, If he was immovable when trying to aquire Heatley, I see no reason why he would be in play for a lesser player in Marleasu.

Could be with the addition of Smyth. Not sure what Zherdev does for that team though.

Not seeing this Marleau scenario any longer now that Gomez is gone. Personally, I take Drury over Marleau any day, and I'm not super excited to have to go back to the UFA pool next summer to re-stock the center position again.

Uhh, no. It was quite the opposite. Murray wanted Dubinsky but Slats refused and held his ground. Hence Murray's comment about not even being able to land a 13 goal scorer.

Rosie is not going to SJ. They already have Boyle, Erhoff, Lukowich, Murray, Vlasic and Huskins and Blake under contract and of those no way they'd rake Rosie on instead of any those.

They will move a d-man, but probably in a package deal w/ marleau or someone for some younger forwards. They have Joslin moving up the ranks and got time there last year.

They're system is not exactly chock full of high end forward prospects. Recent first rounders have bust like Morris (injuries) and Kaspar.

Zherdev is the type of forward they'd want back either.

Marleau isn't even a good fit for the bright lights of Broadway. he's too timid.
